A: is basically reserved for the primary floppy drive and B: is reserved for a secondary. In my really old computer (circa 1984, and it still works!) the 5 1/4" drive was the A: drive, because that's all that's there. In my old 4x86 there are both a 3 1/2" and a 5 1/4" that are A: and B: respectively. For drive names, they're usually sequenced in a floppy (A,B), hard disc (C), cd/dvd drive (D), external devices (E) order. So, that's why the zip drive's E. If you got multiples of something, like hard drives, they're usually given drive numbers in sequence (I got 3 drives and they are C,D and E making my dvd F). As for the floppy, the 5 1/4" discs were initially nicknamed that, and I guess the name just stuck. Back to doing work!

- curioser and curioser...
how did the 3 1/2" get to be A then if the B size came first?
Was the original A those cool tape thingies?
Today I worked on a computer that refused to recognize that it even had an A drive.
Well, really, it thought that the zip drive (E, I think)
was the A drive... which is cool if you're working on zip,
but not if you're trying to transfer things to your floppy
And why do they (or is it just me)
call those 3 1/2" discs floppies when they're really not floppy at all?
I got my grad photo proofs today...
that's a further sign that I'm going to be done
And the Foresters had their grad last weekend
Holy cow this is bizarre
The end is coming, the end is coming
what am I going to do??
Oh, and I learned, if I work on that bird survey job this summer,
I'm going to be converted to vegetarianism.
This should be exciting.
At least I don't have to pay for my food this time.
I might actually be able to save a lot of money that way.
hmm... and less stress than ECOS... but ECOS... what am I going to do?
Their interviews are the same day as Vandana Shiva
(woo Vandana Shiva! I'm so excited!)
So i just realized how utterly useless my post is.
Thanks for reading! cheers

B: was for the floppy floppy disk. (5 1/4", the big one, that needed a sleeve or else you could lose the precious 360 - 1200 kb of Carmen Sandiego/Oregon Trail goodness.) I guess, by convention, people just don't use it anymore. Maybe in a few years, when there is an entire generation of computer users that have never heard of it, we'll use B: again.

- I hate my life... if I could just sleep at normal times it would be glorious.
I went to bed at 11:30pm - I still haven't slept.
On the upside the Oilers won!!!
We now own a playoff spot if only for a day.
According to the internet I'm an INTP - I only took the test thing once and I think it has me pinned pretty accurately.
Life as an INTP
(Intravert, Intuitive, Thinker, Perceiver)
People of this type tend to be quiet, independent and private; logical and unemotional; creative, ingenious and innovative, global thinkers; curious and driven to increase their competence; casual and adaptive; nonconforming and unpredictable.
The most important thing to INTPs is their privacy and the opportunity to solve complex problems in unique ways.
Great careers for INTPs
Here are just a few popular and often satisfying careers for people whose Personality Type is INTP:
Computer software designer / developer
Venture capitalist
Legal mediator
Financial analyst
Economist
College professor: philosophy, economics
Musician
Intellectual property attorney
Web site designer
Investigator
Strategic planner
Neurologist
Pharmaceutical researcher
Network integration specialist
IE on both my laptop and the desktop seems to be fucking up lately... I think it's time for a routine nuking on both machines.
Yeah.
Umm... blue, media, disk, carmen sandiego, cerebellum, rip, ache, expansion, ring, follicle, voltage, travel, name, cup, dive, purchase, string, methane, Holliday, uncertain, itch, inhale, bacon, mouse, water, cacaphony, bead, black, pen, snow, symmetry, button, punctuation, up, roll, tube, simple, LCD, door, ice cream, weight, bracket, bicycle, depth, internet, plastic, blizzard, nipple, digit, detail, binary, envelope, lobe, rain, shoe, lips, X, roman, hockey, flash, alloy, inter-galactic, return... so those are words randomly generated from my brain until I thought "what about the B drive?"
Have you ever noticed that on the majority of computers running windows there is an A: drive which is the 3.5 floppy disk drive, a C: drive which is the hard drive, D: and E: and F: are generally CD/DVD rom/burners and/or virtual drives. There may even be a second hard drive or partition or something but it's never named B: - at least not that I've seen.
Why is a B: drive so bad?!?
Ah fuck it, I'm going to get a drink...

- Better yet, I could've brought "The Hole" along and we could have waited for Mary to come out of the theatre to order the slaves to go through a re-enactment of the movie for us. AND THEN! We go and blow up the town...er Citadel - whichever, take your pick. Also, should it have been available at the time, we could've toonie hosed the guy behind the counter who was so unlucky to have been the one to inform us that the tickets were sold out. Of course if we blew up the citadel first then I'm sure we could try hosing the corpse.
Aaaaand back to our daily programming.
