It's passed now, but for future reference:

A Blizzard Warning is issued when winds of 40 km/h or more, are expected to cause widespread reductions in visibilities to less than one kilometre, due to blowing snow, for at least four to six hours.

Good to know.

how often does one get to see this

as the "current weather" icon?
it kind-of makes the blizzard more special... somehow
don't you think?

Xkcd points to the MacRumors forum reaction to the iPod announcement five years ago as a note of caution when speculating about the impact of announcements from the Reality Distortion Field.

Nevertheless, the iPhone does look interesting -- if for no other reason than they have done away with that frivolity of portable devices: buttons.

At the moment, it's not something that I would necessarily be looking at for myself; any PDA-like device I'd be buying in the short term would have to be able to give me quick access to some absurd amount of medical information. If and when that were to become possible with this device, though, I'd look at it very seriously.

One wonders, though, how long it would take before that screen (which is used for viewing one's pretty portable video) becomes pocket-scratched and fingerprint-y.

I love that, apart from the fact that my planning for the next two years became incredibly more complicated today, one of the programs I'm interested in for my clerkship has, literally, no information online. Googling "integrated clinical clerkship" alberta turns up exactly one result; the minutes from the meeting of the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass Council when the U of A approached them to participate in the program.

Between that and the revelation of all the absurd little rules that specialty programs have for med students applying for residency (regarding choices of electives, etc.) and the gamesmanship of the whole process (e.g. if they tell you you're in their "top four" or any other statements about your standing in the process during the interview, it's a blatant lie, and, supposedly, everyone knows it), I'm more than a little tempted to just wash my hands of the whole process and blissfully stroll my way to a Family Med residency.

Did I mention that I have to submit my clinical clerkship rotation (ie. 3rd year med) choices by next Monday? (Although, before anyone gets too concerned, this choice is only about when I do which rotation and has no bearing (one assumes) on my residency applications. Still, suddenly it feels like all my decisions carry a weight disproportionate to the preparation I have made for them.)
