you know what really makes people stop and stare at you? showing up at a BP's in Regina with all three of your dining partners wearing Oilers hockey jerseys, while you are wearing one as well. I think it was pretty much a no-brainer for the manager to make sure that cbc was on for us... even if we were the only ones in the restaurant cheering when Peca scored.

and... actually, the further west we drove today, the more oliers mania we saw... there must be some sort of oilerfan radius around edmonton.

dude, my hockey pool is going fairly well too. i'm third of six and i have the most players heading in to the division finals with 7 (if Connolly isn't horribly injured). And my favourite and my new favourite Oilers are doing quite well for me ... (Horcoff and Stoll, respectively) woo! wish i could've joined y'all on whyte, even if it was a little, uh, dull. hell, how can impromptu games of street hockey be dull?

Yeah we saw the riot cops get dropped off and do that walk-while-beating-your-shield thing. That's actually pretty intimidating. Anyways... next round - here come the Oilers.

Yeah Oilers! Even my dad has stopped watching the Chinese channel to watch hockey! I don't think any of you realize how big that is.

synopsis: hockey, flashers, shopping carts, explosions, idiots, giant cops.

Maybe it's just me, but near riots on whyte are seemingly boring. It was only spontaneous when we won the detroit series. Maybe it was just because the game tonight seemed like a formality. everyone in Edmonton knew we were gonna win, and it seemed that The Sharks did too. The game was relatively dull, though I am happy to see that the Oilers can hold onto a one goal lead through most of the game. I've wanted to see them do that for quite some time now.

There will be a huge section about whyte ave in tomorrows papers. It was the most people, the most flashers, an actual brawl, people shooting roman candles in the street, and some idiots trying to climb across the wire that holds the traffic lights up in front of squires. They were even ably to drop into the crowd for what appeared to be a relatively soft landing. Once two of them were hanging on it at once it crossed my mind that it looked like a fairly long slackline. The police backed right off and were pretty much observing for most of the night. I'm sure they took a lot of pictures of the festivities though. There were the two girls standing in a shopping kart flashing people when one of the firecrackers seemed to explode right next to them. The cart went down pretty fast. Potential burns, though I hope not. There were also some giant cops out there. Probably swat or commandos of some sort. They would make Paras look small. They were the type of guys, to put it lightly, you do not fuck with because they will beat you into the ground, sort of guys.

Maybe it was the less than stellar game in combination with the heat and a relatively crappy day at work, but I felt very subdued tonight. I need some sleep.

Schedule for Round Three (I can't believe I wrote three... that's nuts):

* Game 1 at Anaheim: Friday, May 19, 7 pm
* Game 2 at Anaheim: Sunday, May 21, 7 pm
* Game 3 at Edmonton: Tuesday, May 23, 6 pm
* Game 4 at Edmonton: Thursday, May 25, 6 pm
* Game 5 at Anaheim: Saturday, May 27, 7 pm (if necessary)
* Game 6 at Edmonton: Monday, May 29, 6 pm (if necessary)
* Game 7 at Anaheim: Wednesday, May 31, 7 pm (if necessary)

I guess that means that Geekfest is co-opted once again for hockey. Given that the reason is hockey, one of the prevailing themes of the 'fest over the past year and a half, I don't particularly mind.

This schedule also bodes well for Ed (and possibly Mary as well), as Saturday's festivities will only be dominated with talk about hockey, as opposed to gawking and cheering at hockey.

On the topic of Sunday's game, I wouldn't mind having people over at my place (I'd like to share in some of the fun, too.) Perhaps we can finalize that later, though.

Oh yeah, and w00t.
