can someone remind me, when exactly did Disney become a super marketing monster? was it back when Roy took over from Walt, or was it when Michael Eisner got the job? this is insane... Admittedly, i'm glad the muppets will live on, but how is it that Disney got ahold of them and suddenly we get schlock like this?
mind you... i do like that you can find the movies on dvd. but still

New Works on the Block” – We’ve got the right stuff!
check out the poster here...

That's right.. the New Works fest is back.. and I'm doing publicity for it, so I thought I would spread the word on here--because well, you guys do the arts stuff... well some of you anyway...
PLUS i get to use cheesy New Kids lingo.. and that's cool....
New Works is an exciting theatre festival that gives local artists the opportunity to explore theatre at all levels, giving particular focus to the works of new playwrights. The festival collaborates with six new playwrights, taking them through the production process step by step. It allows these playwrights to work with up-and-coming directors, dramaturges, designers, actors and technicians to produce new theatre on our block. Don't even deny that my catchy new kids through backs aren't making you fall in love with me just a little....
The main stage shows have THE RIGHT STUFF! Things get complicated in Leif Oleson-Cormack’s Jumping the Shark when an ordinary couple takes in a new roommate in order to spice up their relationship, and havoc ensues in David Daniel Kohl’s Why People Have Deadbolts when an unsuspecting couple just tries to go out for a nice dinner. In Jessica Haak’s black comedy, The Things We (Don’t) Need to Know, a tortured artist struggles through his quarter life crisis with the help of his quirky friends, and finally, in Paul Welch’s physical piece The Shadows in the Mirror, five characters explore a world filled with fear, shame and desire while forced to confront the consequences of their actions.
PLUS there are two staged readings which are FREEEEE Matthew Lisac’s Pope Dreams is a whimsical look at a talented young basketball player’s unexpected dream and William Mitchell’s Queue focuses on a bizarre afternoon spent by two friends as one confronts who – or what – his mother really is, and Jesus drops by for a visit.
Performances begin nightly at 8pm, February 14th to the 18th, in the Second Playing Space at the Timms Center for the Arts. The staged readings will be on February 16thand February 18th at 5pm.
Good new theatre that's CHEAP!
Don’t be left hangin’ tough without tickets! A $5 Weekday pass will get you into any show, any night, from Tuesday to Friday (limited seating: first come, first served), Saturday passes are $5. The Staged Readings are free. Passes can be purchased at the door and in the Fine Arts Building (2nd floor by the pedway) on February 7, 8 and 9 from 11am-2pm.
