I'll give them this much: they know how to give a guy a memorable goodbye.

I disagree with a lot of what P.J. O'Rourke says, but he's still fun to listen to/read:
Commencement advice you're unlikely to hear elsewhere.
My generation spoiled everything for you. It has always been the special prerogative of young people to look and act weird and shock grown-ups. But my generation exhausted the Earth's resources of the weird. Weird clothes -- we wore them. Weird beards -- we grew them. Weird words and phrases -- we said them. So, when it came your turn to be original and look and act weird, all you had left was to tattoo your faces and pierce your tongues. Ouch. That must have hurt. I apologize.

I've been trying to stay away from talking about US politics (even though I may be reading too much of it for my own good), but this is just nutty:
It was in Crown Point, Indiana, that [Hillary Clinton] drank beer and a whisky shot for the cameras some weeks ago. Now she favours sports metaphors of varying quality—“We're going to knock balls out of the country's park,†she says, standing in a minor-league baseball stadium, “for the home team, which is Americaâ€â€”and speaks about working in her father's fabric-printing shop as a child.
...
She reworked Martin Niemöller's poem about the Holocaust to lament jobs lost to trade: “They came for the steel companies and nobody said anything. They came for the auto companies and nobody said anything.â€
I mean, the baseball metaphor is clumsy and overworked, and that should be bad enough. But job losses = Holocaust? Somebody stop this pandering machine.

So folks, as you all know, Al and I are getting set for the big Croatia trip coming up soon. If there's anyone else out there wishing to join us, let us know so we can plan accordingly. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Also, if you want a postcard from our trip, send me an e-mail and I'll add you to the list.
