Do you know who else has 5 year plans? Toyota automotive group. From virtually a small bit auto maker in the early 60's to one of the biggest automakers in the world! Every five years they make a new plan of the vision they want the company to go in. To link everything "progressive" or different with Nazis and communist seems a little silly.

Speaking of communism plans, Stelmach unveils plan to train more doctors and nurses:
"We know that waiting lists and delays in seeing health care professionals are mainly due to labour shortages," he said. "The Progressive Conservative plan recognizes this and responds with aggressive actions."
The plan would add training facilities to turn out an additional 225 doctors, 350 registered nurses and 220 licensed practical nurses each year. It would take until 2012 to reach the goal, Stelmach said.
A Conservative government would also step up efforts to recruit qualified foreign-trained health-care workers, he said.College of Physicians and Surgeons questions plan
But the registrar of Alberta's College of Physicians and Surgeons isn't so sure Stelmach's plan will work.
It could be difficult to find enough medical educators to train all those new doctors, Dr. Trevor Theman said Tuesday.
My concerns resonate with those of Dr. Theman: where are we going to put all these medical students, nursing students and residents to get trained in clinical situations? No doubt that will be taken into account in the Premier's almost-five-year plan.

From the people that brought you "gun control is bad because the Nazis supported it", comes "plans are bad because the Commies used them":
We keep hearing about how bad it was that the Alberta government didn't have a plan. I'm not so sure.If you're holding out hope that people in this province will actually make a change, maybe you shouldn't.
During the days of the strong communist regimes in Russia and China, they had five-, 10- and 20-year plans. According to the plans, everything was perfect. In real life, they couldn't even feed themselves.
When Alberta had no plan, we developed one of the best economies in the world. Now that we are developing all these plans, will we soon follow the lead of the Russians and the Chinese?
27 days to go.

Seeing 2-3 year olds sick and lethargic in emerg = heartbreaking.
Seeing the same kids mere hours later playful and cruising around emerg = one of the greatest fucking feelings in the world.

I dunno... maybe it's 'cause I was tired, and it was movie no. 2 with the same actors in it... I might've enjoyed it differently on a different night. ... but still... I far prefer a lot of the other inebriation-coming of age movies out there. Though Taylor's right, the penis drawings were hilarious. I just kind-of figured they'd play a larger role or something...
maybe I need to not knit my way through brainless comedies...

aha, omar's fucked up. That's his favourite character? Nice.
Speaking of Obama, Sheperd Fairey is publicly supporting him and did a free poster campaign with all proceeds going to his political campaign. Needless to say, the new Obey Giant poster prints sold out in a matter of days. I tried to get one, but I was too late.
Okay, I don't even really like comedies but Super Bad wasn't actually that bad in the grand scheme of things. It was about on par with Juno for me, which again, wasn't great but was enjoyable, and at least it wasn't altogether retarded.
The penis drawings were funny though, haha.

I'll admit that I wasn't as big a fan of Superbad as most people, but worse than Eurotrip? That was some addling that sun laid on your brain, I think.
On a completely different note, anyway who's mentioned The Wire to me was exactly right. I don't know why hearing so many good things from so many sources make me less likely to watch things like this.
That said, I've got to take a break from this shit. I barely have time in my schedule for the work I actually have to do, let alone watching two seasons in the past week and a half. Goddamn. I need to actually catch up on this reading that I'm supposed to be doing. You know, learning.
But, you know, if you've got 13 hours to kill, the first season is well worth it. What it does to your life after that is your own business.
(Also, one of the things in the back of my mind while watching has been that Barack Obama's on record saying it's his favourite show, and that Omar is his favourite character. And while I'm afraid that second part will come back to haunt him -- I can almost see the attack ads now -- that's pretty fucking cool. )

so, uh, Superbad really is super bad... I far prefer Dazed and Confused, hell... even Euro Trip... as far as coming-of-age movies go...
at least the title's honest, right?
I guess I can't expect THAT much more from my brother and his friends' movie night plans, eh? Knocked Up wasn't half-bad though.
