Yeah, I got to go to the preview screening of No Country For Old Men, and I must say it's my favourite movie so far this year. Sorry I won't be joining you Al, but it's an AWESOME movie. I think you'll like it.
Also, while it's certainly violent, it's not actually overly gore-y. My girlfriend even liked the movie and she hates scary/violent movies.

the SU had an adventure like this...
only it wasn't that they were making up a policy, more so that something came up that put to shame the organization. I have a feeling it will be dealt with on an as-it-comes-up basis, and not a "please submit everything to us before you publish it on the internet" basis.
So, for example, if one of your classmates has a blog (particularly if they've linked their blog in any way to Med/Dent) on which they post nude photos of women and then proceed to berate them for not being skinny/pert/beautiful/whatever enough, then it'll likely be brought to the attention of the faculty (provided someone finds it and makes the connection). Stuff like this here website, I dunno... and Facebook, as they've always said, watch what you say, just about anyone can read it.

Email received yesterday, from the president of the Medical Students' Association, excerpted:
Recently the faculty of medicine and dentistry came out with a student
media video policy in response to a student orientation video.
Representatives from the MSA held a focus session to gauge student
concern and opinion around the preliminary draft. In addition, we met
with an ombudsman regarding our legal rights around this issue.
Subsequently we met with the faculty to discuss our recommendations
and amendments with regards to the policy, of note that any committee
reviewing the material would have to have student representation. The
faculty modified the document and the latest draft is attached. I
encourage everyone to read and think about the policy as it applies to
most forms of student media including but not limited to facebook,
youtube, websites, student videos, presentations, orientation videos
etc.
Seeing as no one has come out with an official policy on the sharing of preliminary drafts of official policy (a committee may be forming already, however), I've uploaded the document they attached.
The breadth of what they cover as "student media" and the power they want over such media is chilling. An early paragraph in the document (FOMD = Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry):
All student-produced material for viewing by others shall be subject to this policy unless deemed otherwise by the Vice Dean who may decide the material does not represent the FOMD and is produced for personal artistic merit.
A later paragraph in the document:
All material will be previewed by the Vice Dean; Assistant Dean, Student Affairs; or the Associate Dean, Equity. Those considered of concern will then be viewed by a committee consisting of the Vice Dean (Chair); Assistant Dean, Student Affairs; Associate Dean, Equity and the two student representatives as determined by the respective student groups for appropriate content and distribution.Together this says to me that any media a student creates is subject to review (or preview) by the faculty to determine (a) whether it's for 'personal artistic merit' and (b) if not, whether it's 'appropriate'.
The issue of how unwieldy this policy is aside (I mean, what, are they going to sift through everyone's Facebook pages, listen to any music written or performed, scour YouTube for videos about good and bad ideas and sit down once a week to review it all?) the scope of the policy seems, frankly, authoritarian.
I wonder if the deanery hasn't taken the incident with MedShow a few years ago too far. The reactionary nature of this document would be a disturbing consequence of an unfortunate episode.
