mmm... chocolate... helps to take away some of the bitter bitter taste in the back of my mouth from this:

MLA blasts oil testing under pristine lake

including this delightful comment:

"There are very few instances where we've not permitted an exploration project to go forward."

what the fuck is this? government admits its idiocy and full-bore support of whatever industry wants to do??

"I'm kind of in shock," said Cara Francis, who lives in a lakefront home with her two children and husband. "You just hope that the government you voted for will listen to what you have to say, and they obviously are not." I'm guessing she voted conservative...

I have no questions, only answers. Answers to the two burning questions haunting, yes, your very souls.

First, to answer "what am I going to be doing Sunday at midnight?", you need only read about the meteor shower.

Second, the answer to that agonizing "where did Paras disappear to all weekend?" question is simply, "Fairmont". See you all next week.

Hey Tay, remember when you found those shady Indian mechanics to pass your vehicle inspection? Do you remember what they were called, because I have an old vehicle in need of passing an inspection.

So I know this really ahead of time but just so I can put it on the table...

What: A movie specifcally Stardust

When: Saturday evening, exact time to be determined

Where: South Edmonton Common

Why: Because my favourite writer Neil Gaiman wrote the script! Well actually the graphic novel this movie is based off of but close enough. Plus a large assamble(sp?) cast!

Well more detail as the day approaches.

Headline: Loopholes push tenants out of condo converts.

Loophole: "an ambiguity (especially one in the text of a law or contract) that makes it possible to evade a difficulty or obligation."

The law: "Landlords only have to give the one-year notice if they're doing major renovations and need the unit empty.":

"If he sells a unit and the new owner has requested vacant possession, he can now issue a three-month notice to terminate a periodic tenancy," said Monica Frank, a consultant at Edmonton's Landlord and Tenant Advisory Board.

"I think people expected they could get a one-year notice just because it was being sold as a condominium … but we are trying to clarify that so people have a better understanding of what the changes mean."

The wording in the original CBC story, written when the law was passed:
Those wanting to evict a tenant in order to make major renovations or convert an apartment to a condominium will have to give at least a year's notice and won't be allowed to increase the rent during that time.

What's the loophole exactly? Seems the only way the landlord is obliged to give one-year is if they need to make renovations. And the ambiguity was in the reporting, not the law.

That's one hell of a snow job. Makes me wonder what else we're missing about the laws our legislature passes.
