A Sketch Towards a Taxonomy of Meta-Desserts:

A brownie is very “stable”, which is to say it can be combined with many different desserts while still remaining delicious — but surely it isn’t a fundamental dessert type: a brownie is basically just a sulky teenage cake. A crepe, on the other hand, probably is a fundamental dessert type, but it’s a relatively unstable one — it won’t taste good if you put it on a cookie.

I didn't think patent ridiculousness and cold logic could exist together. Maybe they can't. But the discussion is still fun.

Sounds pretty gloomy over at Oilers HQ

Lowe finally reached Nylander.

"In a sombre voice, he told me 'I just couldn't do it.' It was like his wife freaked out, like she was being shipped to Siberia or something."

Does it seem strange that it took 90 years for Russia to host its first Winter Olympics?

Edmonton launches new campaign to curb violence:

University of Alberta criminologist Bill Pitt, however, told CBC News he isn't convinced a slogan will get through to troubled kids.

"Putting these types of gimmicks in front of them is only going to fuel their already jaded, cynical viewpoints of the establishment," he said.
The slogan "Fight Violence" will fuel cynicism? Shocking.

All right, well I'll be joining Matt Bouchard et al for Transformers tonight for the 10:00 show downtown. Anyone's welcome to attend (I doubt the theatre will be much full, anyway). Give me a shout if you need a ride.

-They're always watching me... they owe me royalty payments for using my Grand Arms design in all their future war machines!

-If scenario 1 or 3 happen then it was nice knowing you all.

-If scenario 2 happens expect me to work for my wellhead company for the rest of my life.

-If scenario 4 happens make my lunch:
-a large plate of beef tataki
-a full order of shrimp tempura
-a bowl of hot and sour soup
-and lastly a bottle of V8 or clamato.

Thanx for all the birthday love, folks.

And now for a little something in return: Some of you may remember back in about 1996 that Gary Larson, creator of The Far Side, made an animated feature for TV. Alas, there remains no DVD of it yet, but as is often the case these days, YouTube comes through!

The Animated Far Side, Part I
