Edmonton launches new campaign to curb violence:
University of Alberta criminologist Bill Pitt, however, told CBC News he isn't convinced a slogan will get through to troubled kids. The slogan "Fight Violence" will fuel cynicism? Shocking.
"Putting these types of gimmicks in front of them is only going to fuel their already jaded, cynical viewpoints of the establishment," he said.

All right, well I'll be joining Matt Bouchard et al for Transformers tonight for the 10:00 show downtown. Anyone's welcome to attend (I doubt the theatre will be much full, anyway). Give me a shout if you need a ride.

-a full order of shrimp tempura
-a bowl of hot and sour soup
-and lastly a bottle of V8 or clamato.

Thanx for all the birthday love, folks.
And now for a little something in return: Some of you may remember back in about 1996 that Gary Larson, creator of The Far Side, made an animated feature for TV. Alas, there remains no DVD of it yet, but as is often the case these days, YouTube comes through!
The Animated Far Side, Part I
Part II
Part III

Irish company Steorn show-cases their "free-energy" device tomorrow.
The only possible outcomes:
- tears a whole into another dimension and aliens come pouring out (ala video game Half-life).
- oil/auto industry buys it all up and "forgets" about it
- WW3
- free lunch for everyone!

Alison, you can't make Orwell references! They can read what you write!!
Also, do you guys understand the following comparison? "Transformers is about as clever as an unplugged blender." I don't get it.
That said, does anyone want to see the movie tomorrow (Wednesday) night?

Does anything about the latest in the AEUB story strike anyone as weird?
Energy Minister Mel Knight will investigate the Alberta Energy and Utility Board's hiring of private investigators to spy on landowners opposed a new power line, Premier Ed Stelmach said today.
"I just want to make sure we have all of the information and that once that information comes forward to the minister of energy and myself, we can communicate back to Albertans," Stelmach said.
The move is a reversal from last week, when Knight essentially declared the file closed after speaking with AEUB chairman Brad McManus.
So, the man who, when faced with the possibility that the AEUB is biased and acted inappropriately, simply asked the chairman of the board if that was true and then closed the case when the chairman said no is now the man who will investigate the board's actions.
I won't hold be holding my breath for that report.
