how long has the Edmonton Journal had a section called "Leaking Oil"? it's certainly apt given the performance of our dear hockey heroes... "Oil Spills" just doesn't convey the full gory detail of what happened this year, but leaking oil?? The icon/image is kind-of entertaining too... if I could find a non-pixely image of it, i'd post it, but given the grainyness and its pairing with the Prongers, um... no.
good story on the fact (according to Cal Nichols) behind the "private family matter" that caused the oilers to lose their dream star player... i guess we just can't win over american privilege...

It is likely that the name "Good Friday" came from the earlier English name, "Godes Friday," meaning "God's Friday." In much the same way as "God be with ye" was shortened to "goodbye," so did "Godes Friday" become "Good Friday."
They go on to list other names for this day, including:
- Big Friday (Israel)
- Karfreitag (Friday of Lamentation, Germany)
- Great Friday (Eastern Europe)
- Holy Friday (Latin America, France, and others)
- Long Friday (Denmark and Scandinavia)
- Jesus' Crucifixation Day (China)
and, my favourite
Gotta hand it to those Communists, they don't euphemism around.

Have a safe flight Al! It's breezy here, so use your judgement on what jacket to wear.

Happy Birthday, Leo. I shall impart to you the lessons I have learned today, in the hopes that they may come in handy for you in the future:
- Being sick the day of an anatomy lab exam and an interview about third-year clerkship is bad (although I may have scored points by insisting on not shaking the doctors' hands.)
- Formalin aromatherapy does not cure the common cold.
- Despite the most vehement insistence of my subconscious, there is no standardized physical exam for assessing whether or not a patient is capable of self-driven flight (darn.)
Go forth and spread the wisdom, my friend!
