Hey Al(ison) - it's entirely possible that something came up for Leila which demanded her attention while she was in Edmonton. Or, if her family lives here too, maybe she felt bad taking off from her family to go hang out with a friend (maybe they made her feel bad). Maybe she never got the messages. In short, a bazillion things that have nothing to do with you personally, or her committment to your friendship, could have prevented a phone back. It sucks that you don't get to see her for a while now, but unless it happens a few times in a row, I wouldn't worry about it.

and, I must vent. am I a bad friend? I mean, I obviously neglect certain relationships... but is it bad enough to not actually contact me? relationships are two way streets, right? how the hell is this fair, my friend Leila came up for a couple of days, I called twice, left messages and an e-mail, and ... nothing. she and I even compared notes before hand on availability to ensure that we could get together... but no luck.

so, shitty deal that it is, she's returning to cow town, and I won't have seen her, nor heard from her at all. but what could I have done? and though I don't expect her to be home all the time to answer the phone, I did legitimately give it a shot in trying to get in touch with her. I dunno, I guess I'm just ticked because she's only home for so long and then it's back on the work trail and off somewhere in america. my only chance for at least a half-year, blown because telephones and answering machines suck.

aw, shit.

now what am I supposed to do about this? I can't very well have a party and go to hipster twister all in the same night, because there's the chance that other people will have yet to arrive. and additionally, I've actually been wanting to go to twister for a while. (sorry if it's rude that i'm biding my time, I will go soon, promise) so, fuck, uh, I dunno, suggestions anyone? the 27th may very well be the only night I have available for a party (though there is a possibility for change, I'll keep you all posted). if you all want, you're welcome to stop at my place and then move on to Wunderbar, no hard feelings in that. or only go to twister, whatever suits your fancy... more baked goodies for me... ;) i feel bad for competing with such an auspicious evening.

and, yeah, those damned Lindt chocolates, not eating/buying them is likely the best solution, but I am also, I think, slowly burning out my voracious desire for them... imagine that. (actually a regular occurrence for me, feast and famine cycles of chocolate abuse...)

hey guys, what would cause your mouse cursor to swing wildly across the screen without the actual mouse being moved at all? is my compy being infiltrated from the outside, or is it just some bizarre normal glitch? weirdness....

Nothing much to report here, had the office Christmas party today. People got drunk, gifts were exchanged, they let us leave work early. Don't have to think about engineering for another 4 days.

The Beckett ounce explained.

Thanks, ngz. It almost sounds like they've covered someone else, but I couldn't place it. Maybe it just sounds like another song I've heard.

yeah the Journal's probably going to have a small blurb, and ED's supposed to do a spread or something after. i dunno. we'll see.
bloc party question: it's a new song, not on the album. it's its own single that came out this summer. (two separate bsides, "HERO" another new song, and "Streets remix of Banquet") you may have heard us play the MSTRKRFT remix of Two More Years at Hipster Twister. i actually have two versions of the song - one version i bootlegged off my Bloc Party FanClub account which actually does not contain the outro lyrics that appear on the official Single release. i may have sent that to you awhile ago or something.

Despite the fact that The Journal and Ed (I think) may be embodied in a single entity at Twister, that's still awesome, ngz. But you neglected the most important part of the shameless plug: what are the prizes?

And while we're talking shameless self promotion, I might as well get this out of the way sooner rather than later:

We're (nearly) up and running. Nearly meaning we need content. But you guys can feel free to check it out at www.whatiftv.com.

For those who don't know (and, by extension, haven't had to suffer through Beck, Andy, and I talking about this site for hours on end (many thanks to Keri and AD for the patience!)) this is the website we've been working on for about three months. In the near future, it'll be your one-stop shop for independent film and tv from the Edmonton area (and beyond!). Right now, it's a shell, but a pretty shell.

Brian (the brains behind the operation) is filming his own show, involving bartending, cooking and power tools (at the same time!) at the Union Hall on the 29th. If you're interested, you can sign up for the guestlist at the site.

And, if you want to take a sneak peek at what we've got, as well as find bugs and make comments, I have bad news and good news. The bad news: it's locked out by a password. The good news: visitor/visitor will get you in.
