man, they always show this picture in those find-your-classmate pop-ups:

Doesn't that dude with the short hair look like a kid that went to Ainlay though? That picture always bugs me because of that...

what I meant is that you can't take two 3 gigahertz processors, stick them together and call it a 6 gigahertz CPU. I mean, maybe that's what they ARE doing, I haven't researched it enough to know for sure... but if that IS the case then that seems misleading to me. Call me on it if I'm wrong, because I don't know for sure; but in my mind I don't see how 2 3gig CPUS would be nearly as fast as one dedicated 6gig CPU. That's what I meant by efficiency. And by "interim" solution, I mean that eventually something new is going to have to be developed. You can't just keep adding another processor everytime you want to go faster... if you did, computers would eventually be on the path to room-sized machines again (I'm exaggerating of course, but you know what I mean)! In the meantime, this is a quick and neat solution... but singular processor development will have to continue to some extent, and if not that; an entirely new architecture altogether will need to be constructed... which I think will ultimately be the case.

Yeah, the London subway attacks are kind of scary. CBC says 33 people died.

"Obviously, making multi-core processors is by no means the most efficient way to do it, but I think it's good that they're at least trying something new in the interim while they develop new technologies to increase single-core capabilities."

What? How are you measuring efficiency, exactly? If you want to run a program that can be easily split into independent parts and you want to do it twice as fast as you normally could, it's much easier and cheaper to grab two of the current generation processors and split the work than it is to develop a processor that's twice as fast.

It already exists in a primitive form. Your graphics card is a separate processor. This is just taking division of labour and making it more efficient (reducing cost of communication between processors, etc.)

Multi-core processing is by no means an interim. It is, simply, the way architectures will be built in the future, particularly for multitasking systems (eg. personal computing.)

All right, done now. Ciao.

First jam with what may potentially be my 3rd band is scheduled for tomorrow. Motherfucker... I'm not sure if I have time for all this. However, if Clark and I get this house, it will make things easier since the guys in this other band live really close. Here's hoping everything works out!!!
