really long... but I'm sure you're used to it, or you just won't read...whatever

    my goodness

"Johnny Cash's voice - the only voice besides James Earl Jones' that could credibly pass for God's" - Madelyn Rosenberg (as quoted in Utne - must be an Utne day)

The Man Comes Around - wow

Johnny Cash's faith is truly impressive (although "impressive" hardly even covers it)
and I think I'd say the same were he Muslim, Jewish, Hindu or anything else.
and then he has this power, his songs, his conviction
or perhaps I just haven't listened to someone who really cares about their words
on headphones for a really long time
the beauty of ageing (and I hope we all get to experience this)
is that you realize what is truly important
and I think that's what's coming through in his voice, in his words

Regardless of your interest/respect for country music,
Johnny Cash should be a required listen, even if only once.
and to make you feel better about it, try
American IV: The Man Comes Around
he covers such wonders of the non-country music field like:
Hurt, Personal Jesus, Bridge over Troubled Water, and In My Life
but the country songs too, some written by others, are worth giving a listen.

    Yes, I am not studying.
It's Friday night. I'm doing laundry instead.
but is it selfish to not want to go to your great aunt and uncle's 50th anniversary party?
It's tomorrow night. I'm going to a book sale tomorrow for ECOS' benefit.
and I don't know how long I'm going to stay there, but I need to study
and the dinner/party starts at 4:30.
and I'm bussing to and from the library
and i need to iron things first (but they're in the wash right now)
    I don't think they'd feel bad if I wasn't there
but I think this is a "family duty" kind of event
but two more exams, exhaustion, no interest in having my cheeks pinched...
what counts as selfish vs self-interest (is there a difference) and
what is unacceptable? I didn't even know I was going until recently
my mom was tempted to send my brother and me as proxies for her and dad
and previously, she didn't even know Sean and I were invited
why couldn't I have just stayed home? I need to study... desperately
but I can't now, I'm too beat, really.

(oh oh, library downtown parkade P3N book sale 75 pallets of books and other media, 50 cents to $2 for EVERYTHING)

do you mean like "warning: do not iron pants while wearing them"?
remove those kinds of safety labels?

and now for a quotation in Utne from an interesting article on a failed American expatriate
(meaning he tried to leave and couldn't, so he's making the best of it in the states)
on what American views of other nations should be but aren't because of poor media/information coverage:
"Foreign countries are places that we can learn from, not just targets for military or economic invasion."

I wish that message could get through to these guys:
apparently an "obscure think tank called the Project for a New American Century (PNAC), founded in the early '90s by Reagan era hawks such as William Kristol, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle, served as the incubator for George W. Bush' invasion of Iraq ... Among the goals of the PNAC are permanent U.S. military dominance in the world and control of world markets - particularly the oil market. To this end, the hawks had targeted oil-rich Iraq for "regime change" long before last year's debate on Saddam's weapons of mass distruction." (also from Utne, Jan-Feb 2004)
so... all they needed was a reason to go in... and make it look legit...

    More IRC quotes:

    #4753 +(4776)- [X]

(xterm) The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

A brilliant tit-for-tat between would-be-art-critics-turned-art-thieves, an unsuspecting Gaurdian journalist caught in the crossfire and London's (if not the world's) most notorious grafitti stenciller BANKSY:

    further on the library sale:
they usually only have 30 pallets of stock for sale
    so this is huge
stock will change constantly, so you don't know what you're missing...
and as the news release said: come early and come often
    Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 1-5
    Milner Library Parkade P3N Downtown

I'm looking for Bill Peet (my favourite children's author... worked for Disney too)
but also stuff for ECOS... environmental issues/resources etc.
but they have everything available. paperbacks, cassettes, videos, hardcover etc.
it's worth a look if nothing else.
the most affordable book sale in Edmonton
paperbacks and cassettes for 50 cents.
    hardcover, videos etc. for $2.

um, P, I thought for a little bit that your whole "Napoleon Icecream" bit was just another extension of your weird bat-logic-illogical dialogue.

    Neapolitan.

i must say... being on the other side of the interview table is a bizarre experience.

oh, by the way, I can now legitimately inform you of my "secret"
I have been hired to be ECOS director for next year.
really not nearly as consequential or exciting as the supposed pregnancy
although this does not mean I shall be seeking such an "exciting" event as becoming pregnant. It just means that y'all may not enjoy hearing the news near as much. nor that the ECOS job will be a cakewalk, but it doesn't have life-long implications and thus is a much less consequential 'thing' than pregnancy

blah blah blah. I'm just babbling... sorry!

good luck to all y'all who have exams tomorrow.
I'll probably be around to study and say hi, but who knows.
I think I've seen more of some of you since classes have ended... weird.
