- hmm...
Albert, not all of us are geeks locked in our basements looking up porn because we don't have girlfriends, remember that. Some of us aren't locked up, or looking for porn, or girlfriends for that matter. So there.
As for my Middle Earth names, I was either a "Respected Wood Elf" or a "Frightened Ghost" depending on whether or not my middle name was involved in the generator. And for the most part my names, masculine or feminine, are fairly similar in their non-femininity except the elvish where you can change the suffix to alter its expression.
Hence forward, I shall be known as Nalîzôr, Taraduialiel, Rundin Lightningboot or Malin Halflingskin, Azurk the Cruel and Adelard Hill from Stock or you could just call me alison. You can guess which names follow which races. I want to know my entish name!

Well last post for now... Sorry about that rant about all of us being nerdy guys who watch porn because we can't get girlfriends...but sometimes it seems to be the truth.

- I don't know if anyone knows but on the radio this morning they were talking about a site you can go to to find out what your name would be if you lived in Middle Earth. So in honour of Return of the King here is the address. Now I don't know how to make it a link so you will have to cut and paste it. I'm not as computer literate as some.

- Man, while Becker's stuff holds up under psychological studies, I nonetheless believe that a lot of his analytical explanations of the results stray a great deal from the true mark. However, with that being said... I do agree with his Hero-System to an extent. I think Al is a prime example of this, but he shouldn't be singled out in the least; there's countless numbers of people who subscribe to it fully. Not only that, but every last individual that comprises humanity as a whole subscribes to it in varying degrees. I think such a system comes hand-in-hand with the evolution of hominid culture. It's impossible to do away with should we hope to survive as a culturally-evolved species... The problem arises when we can't separate the facts from the fiction. As my high-school drama teacher fondly used to say: "far too many of us haven't installed proper bullshit shields."
And I'm afraid to say he's right.
You've all heard of religious fanatics and fundamentalists who sometimes follow their respective religion's teachings to a literal extreme. Yeah, well... there's a great many more of us who follow society's mandates in the same way. "Socio-cultural Fundamentalists" if you will, who take 'norms' and interpret them as 'absolutes'. I am disturbed and saddened by such cases, but they're usually too caught up in their routine to fully understand their facelessness. They fail to realize that you can't see the whole line-up until you've stepped out of it.
Thankfully Albert has the common sense to know that something's fucked up; the vast majority of people never do, and I'm pretty sure there are a good number of people on this very board who haven't figured that out yet (yes, that means YOU; I implore you to think about it)... But understanding that life really is fucked up is quite a disturbing revelation. I for one haven't come to full terms with it, and while I take pride in myself as a 'free-thinker', I'm fooling myself if I think I've come even close to emancipation from the routine. With any luck, Albert will be the first and will lead the rest of us by example.
Al- life's fucked, but the consolation is that the ball's in your court. And I sincerely wish you the best of luck with that shit man... I'm as lost as you are.
