Holy Crap! I finally found a copy of Star Control II on the web. This has to be the greatest day in the history of... this message board! This has been something I've been searching for for awhile now. I know I've ranted to Paras, Percy, Ng's, Pete, and probably others about this game. Well now my friends, each and every one of you can play this game and waste away either study time or your whole Christmas break. The original game was an old DOS game. But the released it for the 3DO which ran off CD's so the newer version had sound files and movies. And since there were enough loyal fans bothering the company, they released the source code to the 3DO version of the game. So the loyal fans rebuilt the thing, and from what I know it is in pretty much complete working order.

I encourage you all to download and play this game, there is even a Linux version ( Paras ). The game starts you off with out background info into the story. The whole why you are where you are thing. You can read about that here As well "Melee" mode is one of the best parts of the game. You should at least try that before jumping into the huge long game. The aliens are nasty, and humans suck so you better figure out how to fight before anything else. Plus it can be played in two player mode which kicks ass! I kinda just pressed buttons till stuff started happening, but I think most of the controls are the directional keys, space, shift, control, enter, esc, and F1.

In any event thats it! If you take my advice to play any game, make it this one! Have fun boys and girls.

An initial 3-1 victory was followed up by the most embarrassing game in the history of the Cmput 366 VSL (Virtual Soccer League). Disheartened by their initial loss, team 10452 took the game to a new level of intensity just before half time by severely decapitating the Prodigious Panache goalie Gree N. Dot. PP responded by kidnapping 10452 star forward Yell O. Dot, wrapping a string of code around his neck in a makeshift noose fashion and hanging him from their goal posts. This infuriated 10452 even more when the lifeless virtual body blocked the potential tying goal just as time ran out of the first half.
The second half began not as a soccer match, but as an all out royal rumble complete with step ladders and folding chairs. As the dust settled it was clear that the game would not continue due to the highest death toll ever recorded in a soccer match since that game in England yesterday. The referees gave out the obligatory red cards, dragged the corpses off the field, and called the game at the current score of 2-1 for Prodigious Panache.

Goalie Gree N. Dot was available for comment after the game:
"Well we went out there and played it as a team. We just left it all on the field and gave 110%. But what did I get for it huh? A severe decapitation, that's what! We're pissed, and team 40519 we're coming for you next."

Strong words from a strong dot. Prodigious Panache will advance to the final four to face team 40519.


Elsewhere in the league, the much favoured team XX***YYY also advanced to the final four however the big guns were reduced to only 11 goals in two games. XX***YYY will be facing the cute but flightless Christmas Penguins for a spot in the finals.
