don't worry about it!
also for future reference, and this goes for everybody, don't feel as though you have to apologize if you miss out on an event i put on or whatever - i understand everyone gets busy, sick or whatever. If you can't make it don't worry about it, s'all good, no need to apologize here, yup

Hey Eric, sorry we didn't come out last night, but I fell asleep at 9 pm. Grad school has made my bed time lame.

As long as you have it straightened out in your head and nothing happens then don't worry about it.

Albert, by no means am i giving my students preferential treatment with respect to marking etc. it's just that conversationally, face-to-face relationally, i talk with some more than others, and have a better time talking with some more than others. i'm doing my darndest not to create any sort of, uh, rankings (for lack of a better word), but it's a challenge seeing as i knew some of them from previous courses, and since i'm in a class with some of them... as well as some of those likely to be my students next year.

i'm sure i'm blowing it way out of proportion to the reality of the situation, but, like most of you know, i have a flirtatious personality, and so do some of my students (and some of my would-be students), and that's mostly what i'm worried about... especially this one guy with gorgeous eyes... (who's not yet my student, but likely will be next year... so does that mean it's ok in the meantime??) it's not so much that i'm doing anything, but that there likely is a perception that something might be going on... and that's what i'm worried about

Simon told me i'm a student-hugger...

Alison there is no such thing as favourites. When they utterly disappoint you next year believe me you won't have any favourites. Grow thicker skin like every other university professor. Don't get me wrong it is a good thing to be friendly to students but as a teacher you have to be more professional. I would almost say detached to a degree, by giving them good marks or preferential treatment because they are your "favourite" isn't doing them any good.

It's way too early to be thinking anything right now. I'm not even buzzed on coffee yet.

unfortunately, no.

i hope you all have some costumed fun, everyone... i shall be digging shallow holes in the forest instead. and trying my darndest to figure out ways to not like my students... or my prospective students for next year...

Halloween??

Thought I'd invite y'all over to my house Saturday night around 8 for a almost-Halloween shindig. I thought we'd give the bonfire thing one more try, weather permitting (ie - if there is no moisture falling from the sky, so bring your mitties!) and if not then whatever you want to do is fine by me. There is an Oilers game (I'm sure we could come up with a drinking game or two around that, for those so inclined) or whatever. Sardines perhaps, if we haven't decided we're too old for that (it's Halloween - we're allowed to be a little childish).

Bring whoever/whatever you want.

Well, that's easy to fix, P. Change "browser.tabs.closeButtons" to 3 from 1.
