The new season of The Hour started last night on the main network. Too late at night for me, though (my desperate attempts to maintain 6-7 hours of sleep a night continue). They are, however, streaming the episodes on their website. With... commercials? Strange. Guess the MotherCorp's gotta make money somehow. (Not that I'm not fast-forwarding, of course.)

Keri and I may be going to see School for Scoundrels tonight... it's playing at South Edmonton Common at 10.

I didn't notice this before, but the calendar has a clickable for September and October, even though we're in October.

All I have to say on the idea of arming teachers, is that it seems to me to be more likely that someone will get killed by the gun the teachers brought in to defend themselves and their students. One of the most potent stats that pro gun people love to ignore is that one is more likely to be shot by the gun one bought for protection than by someone elses gun. Under this proposed scheme, the crazy people don't have to worry about getting guns past the metal detectors at the entrance to the school, all they have to do is disarm a teacher and go well... crazy.

John Gabriel, Dentista. Not just hilarious, but timely as well. One last dentist-ing before six weeks sans the dent students in our class. (Apparently, for one reason or another, the faculty feels that they don't need to learn about Reproductive Medicine and Urology. Strange, no?)

Something in the news post reminded me of a somewhat quaint notion I've been contemplating for the past little while. Tycho describes how he's expanded his mother's Nintendo DS universe of late, and describe how "Animal Crossing: Wild World did something [he'd] never been able to do: show her why her young man (who was in so many other respects a good boy!) chose to willingly disappear into these machines."

The notion I had been nurturing was, given what seems like my impending purchase of a Wii, dragging my own mother into the world of more immersive video games. She already spends a fair bit of time traipsing on the edge of a real gaming experience. Given my perception of the inuitiveness (?) and genuinely fun gameplay of some of the titles coming out for the Wii, I'm cautiously anticipating her going over the edge.

I'll find out in a couple of months, I suppose. Of course, this part of Tycho's post, from my perspective, is priceless:

how about a chocolate cake shaped like a spider? or... peeled grapes for eyeballs... um... not sure what else to suggest... Dana's got most of the good ideas if you ask me. you can do some fun stuff with jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins... soup, cookies, cake, pie... not much more creative than that though.

Lasee's idea is half-baked, teachers and school officials can become corrupt by the power of their weapons. Parents should arm themselves and encourage their children to carry some heat with them at all times. Those who object to carrying firearms can bring pepper spray, bear spray, holy water, tasers, lasers, knives, and collapsable batons as substitutes.
