Conan O'Brien from last night featuring Stephen "Colbert Report/Strangers With Candy" Colbert and Rainn "Dwight Schrute/My Super Ex-Girlfriend" Wilson. (And Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials, for those Blues fans who are more knowledgable than I).

Happy Birthday, Petey.

watched a wall of TVs in his basement, or his mother's basement, I wonder? Apparently he disappeared for like 2 years and eventually they found him living in his mother's basement.

still though... watching a wall of ten TVs sounds pretty awesome to me. Remember how the closest thing to a "big screen TV" in the early 80s was a wall of TVs that acted like a single giant TV? Remember how fucking COOL that was!?? Rich people would have these things installed into the walls of their beverly hills homes, and when you saw somebody on TV that had one of those systems you were like "oh wow!". But now it's like "whatevs... I got my projection screen and my plasma and my high-def LCD TV with a blu-ray DVD system."

Way to take all the fun out of it, assholes.

Yep, I heard. Though in a way I was a bit surprised to see that he was still alive. And that it was a diabetes-related problem that finally did him in.

Although I've never heard the cracker story before, it sure seems sadly plausible. Another thing I heard about his days after his collapse was that he spent much of his time watching a wall of over ten TVs in his basement.

On another note, happy B-day, Petey.

Hey Tony, I'm assuming you heard about Syd Barrett's unfortunate passing away this week?

I couldn't find it in the wikipedia article, but I heard that at the height of his mental breakdown he locked his girlfriend in the bathroom and fed her just a single cracker a day by sliding it under the door. Eventually, people who were concerned about the girl broke down the door into Barrett's apartment and found him locked in a cupboard.

Towards the end of his career, it's purported that he never played a song the same way twice. He brought a song he had written to the band called "have you got it yet?" and he kept changing it, asking them if they'd got it yet? After over an hour of trying to learn it they eventually figured out they'd never get it.

But damn could he write some killer songs.
