dude! Stuart McLean just got asked to be some 7-year-old kid's (the kid phoned him) show and tell feature for his grade 2 class. that's so awesome, I wish I'd thought of that. He said yes too.

Ok, so I've been reading a lot of what people have to say about the Oilers-Wings series. Surprisingly, the Journal's coverage, apart from actually being able to interview players, hasn't been terribly enlightening. It seems they have four columnists who each describe the scoring summary in some fashion or another, albeit each with a different focus. Instead, the internet appears to be filling the void for me. (BoA and Covered in Oil have been a gateway to even more comments for me.)

One thing that strikes me, though, is how familiar the frustrations of Wings fans is. Early in the series, there were comments about how the Wings always seem to make the unheralded opposition goalie look spectacular (reminding me of several Oilers games this year against St. Louis and Chicago, were the goalies became all stars thanks to the Oilers' amazing ability to hit them square in the chest.)

Another example today is from the paragraph below. (The team names have, of course, been altered for effect):

I don't remember a more uninspired performance by the [beloved home team]. I don't understand why they couldn't get up to play a full game in front of their fans ... and when they had a chance to take the lead in the series. The [opposition] played great and maybe still would have won, but if the [our potentiate yet depressing team] had even played to half of their ability, I wouldn't feel so ripped off by this game. They put up a performance like this and I'm supposed to get all excited about [their next game]? I'm supposed to have hope that they'll actually show up to play in [the opposing team's intimidating home arena]? Why couldn't they do it yesterday?

Eerie, no?
