That email reminds me of the test group in elementary school I was a part of who learned "whole word spelling." We were expected to memorize the spellings of words instead of learning to sound things out, or all those silly grammar rules like "i before e except after c" or how when you have two vowles together, the sound is the long version of the second vowel. Do you know how many words there are in the english language? Too many to memorize! It also meant that we really had trouble reading words that we hadn't seen often, even if we could auditorally recognize the word. I had a written word vocabulary of about 50 words until grade 3 when my teacher took me aside for "special" classes and we revisited all those grammar things my sister learned in kindergarten and grade 1. Needless to say, that method of teaching kids to read and write was abandoned.

Philips and Time Inc. Agree to Keep It Simple:

Philips Electronics, which is gaining a reputation on Madison Avenue for breaking conventions in reader- and viewer-friendly ways, is paying the Time Warner magazine unit $5 million for a novel ad play. Issues of four magazines -- Time, Fortune, People and Business 2.0 -- will feature the table of contents on the first page; a flap on the inside front cover will tell readers Philips is making that possible. The issue of Time that's involved goes on sale Monday, April 24.

As for the log in thing, I'll try to look into it. I'm not sure what's different between the two versions on that front.

EDIT: Okay, so there's a nuts and bolts section which is shared between the two versions, so I'm assuming that the problem is not there. There's a step before that that was slightly different between the two versions (missing an 'if' statement). I don't see how that was a problem, but I've changed it so it's logically equivalent to the old version. Try it now, and if you're still having the problem, let me know. If you can send me an email with the details (what browser you're using, if you're setting the 'remember me' thing, if you're having luck from one computer but not another, etc.), that would be most helpful.
