I am currently at like 50 hours of not eating anything solid. I damn near died today skateboarding from my house down to whyte ave. Not to mention I ate shit when I hit a curb I didn't notice. That sucked. But after skateboarding all that way I felt hella weak. I met up with some people at Block 1912 and I though I was gonna die. But I went back to Wunderbar for twister and I got 4 pints of Guinness and now I feel much better albeit drunk like a motherfucker. I can hardly even see the screen. But man, I would've quit my fast tonight if it wasn't for that guinness. That shit was seriously a life-saver. When I ordered my first Guinness I was so weak that I was scared I was gonna drop the glass... but as I kept drinking more I felt better and better. Maybe I don't feel better at all, but I just THINK I'm better kuz I'm drunk. I guess tomorrow I'll find out for sure. Gawdamm, this typing shit is HARD. My goal is to make it until noon on Friday. We should plan a sweet outting to Khazana's for a lunch buffet that day. I think that would be the sweetest thing to do after not eating for a week! Who's down for that shit? I know tony is, since he suggested it even before I told him I was thinking about doing it. We should get a sweet crew for old time's sake. I'm almost tempted to invite grant just so I can see him with child again. Hahahaha, fucking dude. Is Ali back in town by Friday? That would be hella wicked. Anyway, I better get some sleep. Talk to you fucks later.

Okay, I deleted the extras, and I'll try to fix it when I get the chance. I'll need to know exactly what you did, though. (Step by step.)

so, uh, what time does twister typically get underway? given my perpetual eye twitch and falling asleep standing up while denuding oven-dried twigs today... I think I shall be curling up in the fetal position a little too early to join in on the fun... but I would love to participate some other time if you plan on returning to your weekly format.

doot doola doot doo aside (one of the weirdest, and bestest parts of CHART magazine throughout the late 90's), though I really do want to join in.

Yeah, Beck, I don't think I've been getting enough sleep... but all the same, I've been getting a rather consistent amount of sleep over the past couple weeks... maybe I just built up a large enough deficit now.

hmm... there's a cloud shaped like an anteater outside... what does that mean??? haha!

My general objection to Hitler/Nazi comparisons notwithstanding, there are still concerns with the comparison. I will grant you that Ahmadinejad doesn't quite fit our idea of an acceptable leader of a foreign nation (translation: the guy is fucking insane, and thinks that he's simply fulfilling apocalyptic prophecy.)

First, though, the comparison is grossly inaccurate. It would be easier to compare Slobodan Milosevic (who oversaw actual genocide) to Hitler, or the Janjaweed in Darfur (who actually carry out, right now, genocide in the Darfur) to the Nazis, than to compare the leader of Iran to Hitler. If you want to claim that someone goes beyond merely being a threat to his neighbours and becomes a threat to humanity, there are far better candidates.

Worse, though, is the exaggeration (allegedly) being made at a planning level. In our society, Hitler is, pretty much, the personification of evil. He is, at least, one that we all agree on, across faiths and backgrounds. Casting Iran in that light -- evil that we must stop at all costs -- casts any conflict in a similar apocalyptic, desperate light. And overestimating the danger, particularly when such an overestimation brings us into the area of using nuclear weapons, is all the more hazardous.

The bottom line, I guess, is that the choice of comparison edges into the perilous. It puts the "let's nuke the bastards" option on to the table when, based on what we currently know, it has no business there.

The tragic thing is that the Nazi comparison may very well be deserved, just not for Iran. We ignore the greater crises of our world, the greater tragedies, because the US is stuck in the Middle East. Because of a judgement error made three years ago. Because of, as I recall, the overselling of the gravity of a threat.

Besides which, to paraphrase Jon Stewart, the Nazis worked really hard to be evil. Don't let's throw that mantle around without good cause.

While it's fairly easy to dislike the Bush administration, I'm not so sure that president Ahmadinejad is such a swell guy. When choosing historical figures to liken Irans president to... why is "Hitler" such a poor choice to make?

That being said, everybody's doin' it. Hell, in this one article... they quote Chavez likening Bush to Hitler, and mention Rumsfeld having likened Chavez to Hitler. Perhaps comparing someone/something to Hitler & co. is getting a little worn.

Anyways, on a completely unrelated note... the Soup Nazi opens up in Toronto.
