What's the twitching like Alison? When I had a really bad bout of insomnia I got an involuntary twitch of the eyelids, upper and lower. It 's called eyelid-myokymia, and was really annoying. Basically it went away when I was finally able to catch up on sleep. Have you been missing out on a bunch of sleep lately?

Seymour Hersh's ado-generating article about US plans for Iran, uh, THE IRAN PLANS. Some interesting stuff, including a bit of an insight into the self-image the Bush administration has:

There is a growing conviction among members of the United States military, and in the international community, that President Bush’s ultimate goal in the nuclear confrontation with Iran is regime change. Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has challenged the reality of the Holocaust and said that Israel must be “wiped off the map.” Bush and others in the White House view him as a potential Adolf Hitler, a former senior intelligence official said. “That’s the name they’re using.

They're calling him Hitler. I guess we know how they see their place in history...

Well, alison, let me give you an example. In eric's post here, he tries to use an image, but the server won't let it be displayed on other websites. He could, then, upload the image to the space I've provided, and then link to it to display the image in a post.

Basically, it's my minor solution to the problem of needing webspace to post an image.

Although the point about seeing other people's (for lack of a better term) galleries is well taken. I'll see what I can whip up.

oh, so, Paras, just for shits and giggles, I uploaded an image. what's the point? is there some magic location where I can see other peoples' images, or are they mine and mine only... and theirs and theirs only (if you follow me)? I'm not sure I understand the reason for this option... however kind of you to allow us to personalize the space and all....

hmm... what a shame, I developed wheezing after one of those super fun "run as many laps as you possibly can" phys ed classes at 15 too... instead, I simply got diagnosed with athletically induced asthma and pneumonia... all at once. no plastic leaf lodged in my lungs... I was partially drowning. woo...

by the way, happy birthday Beck

day number 8 of consecutive eyebrow twitchiness is about to conclude. how the fuck do I make this stop?

All right, Beck, for your birthday, a great story from one of my lectures today.

The prof for our last lecture today works in pediatrics. A few years ago one of her patients, a 15 year old girl, presented having suddenly developed wheezing upon exercise. When she stopped exerting herself, the wheezing resolved. Although wheezing is a classic symptom of asthma, the late sudden onset and the quick resolution of symptoms indicated something else.

So, my prof went down the list. After exhausting many possibilities (emphysema, vocal cord dysfunction, etc.), finally they decided to do a bronchoscopy (basically stick a camera down her trachea.) So they went down the trachea. And got to the first branch, which split the airway between the right and left lungs. And when they got to her right mainstem bronchus, they found something ... a plastic leaf. Apparently she had been chewing on it and thought she had swallowed it. And now it was giving her difficulty breathing (only on exertion, though).

Bottom line: your "six-month old french fry" storyline is completely plausible. Happy Birthday.

(Actually, we were shown an x-ray of an elderly woman who got a piece of meat stuck in her lung which obstructed a lobe as well, but lacking access to the actual picture, as well as quite the same detailed story, I decided to go with plastic leaf girl.)

Yep, liking the new look. I had some earlier issues with the first startup in Firefix. But they seem to have been taken care of. And this whole new page look was a complete surprise. What else are you hiding from us!?

As for the CD shopping, it was a good haul, which included:

M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us (at last!)
The Stills - Logic Will Break Your Heart
The Avalanches - Since I Left You (I'd been looking for it for close to a year now)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever To Tell
The Editors - The Back Room

And yet still so many CDs to buy...

Hey par, your "Change Page Style" thingy isn't very intuitive. It doesn't look like a link or a button and my mouse doesn't turn into a hand or anything on mouseover... I suppose it does have the title text, but still it took me a second to figure it out. I thought my adblock was killing an image or something.
