wait, what? the squares were backwards?? can't you just turn the board or something? I mean, it's 8x8 how is that even remotely possible? unless the squares were upside down... then there's an argument... or if there's a particular, configuration... but otherwise, what?? it's impossible to have it backwards.

FROM STEREOGUM:

Don't Get It Twisted
Have you been following the Thomas Dolby/K-Fed saga? The one-hit wonder took on America's Most Hated on his blog earlier this week:

"Britney Spears' husband Kevin Federline, whom I'd never heard of until a few days ago, appears to have illegally sampled one of my compositions. On his MySpace site you can download an MP3 which uses a looped sample from Mobb Deep's 'Get It Twisted,' which in turn copped the string line from my own song 'She Blinded Me With Science.' Now, Mobb Deep did it the right way and had his label BMG come and ask for a license. They paid me a fee and a royalty on the sales of Mobb Deep's record. However K-Fed, as his fans affectionately refer to him, did NOT ask permission, he just went ahead and did it. He is therefore blatantly violating the copyright law. And laws aside, he owed it to me as an artist to ask if I minded that he recorded a vitriolic rap over the top of my music. It starts off 'This is for the HATERS...' and goes on to blast the media, paparrazzi and all his other critics, sparing no expletives along the way. BMG Records have also had their copyright violated, as they own the master to Mobb Deep's record. But BMG don't want to rock the Britney boat so they are turning a blind eye. It's pathetic! Turns out K-Fed has no management, label or lawyer, so it's going to be hard getting hold of him. So K-Fed, if you're reading this, I'm asking you nicely to take the track down ASAP. Or maybe you'd prefer me to come after some of your wife’s ill-gotten gains?"
But K-Fed totally didn't have Thomas Dolby's blog in his RSS feed! So MTV News had to get involved. And thank god they did. Dolby gives us an update:
They published the article [Thursday] afternoon and called the K-fed camp as well, who announced his song has been taken down from MySpace. Success! That's the power of the Web. Hopefully it will now simmer down and I can get back to rehearsal.
Maybe if we all complain on our blogs, he'll stop rapping entirely!
As a graphic designer, how would you describe K-Fed's MySpace page?

I've heard them play the BOTM outside of the designated month... usually for just a few months after though. Remember when Whitey Houston was band of the month? They got play through February as well, maybe that was just to annoy me though :)

I believe Ben also made a comment that Sonic doesn't play the Band of the Month outside its designated month. (I'm not sure how true this is, but I haven't heard the previous ones since their month.) The Journal did play it up a bit, though. They talked about how Our Mercury was unceremoniously dropped as BOTM. Of course, they wrote this article in the first week of March; Our Mercury was spotlit in February. But, you know, who needs accuracy?

I usually park on 103rd Street just north of 100 Ave, near the meters, and you can walk across the lot to the Starlite.

Actually this is what I heard off the Edmonton Journal when they were interviewing Our Mercury a while back (the not wanting to be on the same playlist as Sound Garden and other "mainstream" bands).

Sonic was giving them plenty of airplay. Our Mercury though Sonic was too mainstream. They didn't want to be on the same playlist with bands like Sound Garden or, well come to think of it none of the bands on Sonic's playlist are that mainstream, well you know when you are pretentious you want certain things. You actually have to submit a demo to the station to be considered for band of the month. So if Our Mercury really didn't want to be on the same playlist as those other "mainstream" bands they shouldn't of submited a demo.

yeah, Happy B-Day Leo!

yes, Eric, gas is still 99.9, it's just that the station by my house was posting 96.4 as their price... (part of the whole 3.5 cent discount at the pump) I just figured that it meant the whole city had gone back down. and thus was engulfed in even greater bitterness at petrochemical companies. and... I got gas the day after it changed to 99.9.

So, two questions for people:
1. is there parking conveniently located in the proximity of the Starlite Room downtown? if you know...

2. how do you stop a muscle from twitching? my eyebrow has been twitching for three days straight now, and it actually is starting to hurt. I've never had that experience before, and I really don't want to continue having it. sure, I've had muscle twitches before, but they've all stopped on their own... not this one. I smile or squint, and it starts all over again. so, outside of immobilizing my face, I don't know what I can do.

oh, and bonus question:
the 68 Comeback Special (cjsr 3-5pm on Wednesdays) mentioned that Our Mercury had some, uh, trouble with Sonic... were Sonic being jerks and not giving them any airplay even though they were band of the month? is that it? or was there more? just curious.
