Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution is truly tempting. Too bad there's no way I would suddenly decide to live a double life as a street racer (...and own a Lan Evo). But, if my catapult transportation devices don't take over the future, the Lan Evo is going to be my exit strategy.

Wow, Tom, you're really itching for a response. I count nearly 30 visits from an IP from The Journal today.

"what do they think is going to happen? new name, new way of dealing with prisoners? Torture is only considered torture to the Americans if it leads to the death of the victim."

Do you mean the 'they' that is shutting down the prison? Because that 'they' has plenty of control over the interrogation procedures in place at US detention facilities; they're under no illusions about what goes on at other sites.

I was watching a talking heads show a little while back in which one of the panel members made an interesting point. If you took an American from the start of 2001 and showed him what his country would become in five short years, he probably would not recognize it. Torture, infringements on freedom and privacy, politicized incompetence, complete failures of logic, giant partisan chasms, the destruction of an entire city -- even The Onion's prescience couldn't predict anything of this magnitude. Hell, if I told you five years ago that torture would become standard practice for the American government, I'd likely be brushed off as just having taken too much of the crazy juice. Yet here we are.

It makes me wary about cartoons like this one, because I wouldn't put it past these guys use the justification humourously suggested by the world of satire without realizing it. Or, to put it another way, I don't think the reach of satire extends beyond what these people are capable of rationalizing... unfortunately.

ahhh!!! you all make me laugh.

why is it that when I get a week without the rents around I have a sprained ankle and am now sick? I don't even get the chance to do something inapropriate. It looks like instead of a weekend of me going to Pams birthday and other such festivities I'll be home sleeping. oh well, on the bright side I can pretty much walk normally most of the time.

at least I'm laughing...

with reference to Par's post: "The US military will doubtless be glad to be rid of this old and notorious prison." ... so that they can continue doing the same old shit they've always been up to somewhere less well-known? old and notorious will be replaced with new and supremely well guarded (to ensure no other photographs are leaked out, of course)

what do they think is going to happen? new name, new way of dealing with prisoners? Torture is only considered torture to the Americans if it leads to the death of the victim... That gives them quite a lot of leeway
