I just finished watching Not without my daughter and drinking... I don't know if anyones' watched this movie before or not it's kind of old (1990 or so) but it's about a woman who's married to an Iranian guy who takes them abck to meet his family, only doesn 't tell them they can't leave until they're there. Anwyay there's a whole lot of stuff about islam that I didn't know before. Anyway the whole thing just pissed me off and now I think the whole middle east should just be better off as a giant radioactive crater. Damn I hate religion.

So, barring a miracle in cross-country skiing, 24 is the total.

I managed to catch Clara Hughes' race this morning where she won the women's 5000m long track gold medal. Now there's an Olympic performance. She crossed the line, looked at her time, hugged her coach, and promptly collapsed into a heap on the ice. Forget giving 110% or leaving it all on the field or backs against the wall or any of the other bullshit clichés that pro athletes use, this performance was the real thing. Well done on her part. If you get a chance to catch the highlights from that event, it's well worth it.

That or the curling final. Canada's Third was amazing; he shot 97%, and they weren't exactly gimmes, either. I wish I could find video online, but no such luck thus far. Here's the result of the sixth end, in which he made his best shot (Canada scored 6 on that one):

Haha... perusing NBC's Olympic website, I find an interesting side effect of their decision to time-shift the Olympics to the evenings. On every page, they have this link:
To avoid results, go to NBCOlympics.com/tv
Brilliant.

Alison, you can check your speed using a tool like CNET's Bandwidth Meter speed test.

Truth be told, though, I'd be really surprised if this were the problem. I can't think of a way in which the speed of the download would affect the plugin.

One question I'd ask is the order in which you installed the two programs (Firefox and Adobe Reader). One just may have had a problem with the plugin; a problem that might be fixed by reversing the order.

(Of course, my knowledge of this area is hampered by my not having done this on Windows in quite some time.)

Hope you can make it better, though.

random question from the semi-illiterate peanut gallery:

How do I know what my internet connection speed is? I'm on Shaw cable...

And the reason why I'm asking: Adobe 7.0 isn't working in Firefox all of a sudden, it used to. Oh, if I change the plugin to use Adobe 5.1, I don't have any problems, and if I remember to start running Adobe before I start running any firefox programs, then I'm okay too... but if I forget, and try to open a pdf on the web, then all I get is a blank window. There seems to be a similar problem with someone else on the mozillaZine forums page but unless the only problem is my connection speed being poorly represented, I don't get it. Anyone got an idea? or at least know what the bps are for Shaw?
