and... for those of you unfortunate in not being able to attend the Stephen Lewis talk today. You missed something phenomenal. Here's just a small taste of what he had to say:

"Human rights lie at the centre of a decent, civilized society."
"The struggle for the rights of human kind is the most noble struggle of all."
"The struggle against the violation of Human Rights is omnipresent and you should never give up."

"No clause of the UN Convention of Human Rights has been honoured, except in the violation of."

Uganda has 2 million orphans, that's 10% of their population. What would Canada do if 10% of our population was orphaned children? We'd be incapable of taking care of ourselves.

2005 is the first time, since the Cold War that the world has spent more that $1 trillion on arms. and less than a fraction of that on foreign aid.

"Why, in heaven's name, is one on this planet if not to improve the human condition?"

Minister Faust interviewed him in Vue Weekly too.

there is something wrong with this picture:

This weekend I sent a relatively random, and nonchalant e-mail to the Edmonton Folk Fest with suggestions for future performers (because they seem to like getting suggestions like that, or else news papers are wrong...). And, Terry Wickham (the producer of the folk fest) sent me a response back today... all of two days after I sent the e-mail. He actually even responded to some of my suggestions. What's really wrong with this is the following: Two weeks before the election, I sent a concerned e-mail (followed by another e-mail later) to my MP and current candidate in regards to his lack of information on riding issues. Two weeks later, I got a form response from one of his campaign helpers, and still, no response from Rajotte.

So, Terry Wickham, an underpaid individual with absolutely NO requirement to reply sent me an admittedly brief response to my e-mail, within 48 hours of my sending him something; whereas the elected official I'm supposed to believe is acting on my behalf has yet to send me anything with regards to my concerns.

I love politicians. They make me want to rock the system more and more each day.

...thirsty Rob Schremp took a presumptuous swig from Toronto goalie Wayne Savage's water bottle during a stoppage in play...

Schremp, the OHL's leading scorer, was nailed for a 10-minute misconduct by referee Carman Cox in the first period for daring to drink from the opposition well.

"I was thirsty. I was just being a smartass," he said.
