A few years ago I got rear ended on the Whitemud, it ended up costing $12K+ to fix. My adjuster basically said if the cost of repair is more than about 70% of the car's current street value then they'll do the repair. However, if the chasis is damaged, then the threshold drops to about 40%. If anything you're car being stopped definitely saved you from getting hurt by absorbing all the force. If you were moving you would have definitely got hurt! You have any pictures of the damage?

I think a little premature to say at this moment. Without knowing the damage done to both your cars I couldn't for sure say how much it would cost to fix my car.

For example my co-worker got into a $16,000 accident but basically they had to replace his whole front end (hood, lights, radiator, ac, etc). Guess we'll have to see what they estimate it at, I only say write off because my car is not worth that much so even minor damage could push it towards write off territory. For sure if it was new it would be repair.

See how it goes.

The drunk driver that hit me did so at a fairly low speed in a parking lot, still the repair came to a little over $12k. I wouldn't be surprised if your car was written off.

Albert's car = not built like a tank

Albert = built like a tank.

My minor accident a few years back was over $8 grand. It adds up pretty freaken quick. Glad to hear you're all right.

Thanks you all for your concerns!

Yep unscathed. Got checked over by EMT.

Air bags did not go off otherwise I'm thinking write off. Well car still needs some estimates and still need to talk to my insurance adjuster. I'm thinking write off because the car isn't worth as much as the repairs that would have to go into it. I might be surprised however.

See how it goes.

Happy you're alive Al. Hey, how often do you get to go car shopping in your life?

WOW! Albert, I'm so glad you're okay. ... you're okay, right? No cuts or scrapes or bruises or anything? Did the airbags go off?

Damn, that's scary. You're really lucky your quick-witted ways allowed you to steer preemptively into a safer position, and that the weather wasn't any worse outside.

It's fully understandable that you haven't 'gotten it through your head' that you're alive and survived. It's pretty surreal for the first little while. You'll find that it becomes clearer in time. ... or at least that's usually how it goes.

Again, I'm super glad to hear you're doing alright, that you've survived unscathed, and that you are, indeed, still alive. Sucks about your car, but hey, that's what it's for, right? making sure that YOU get to your intended destination. There are always more cars out there.
