Hey Everybody! ... and Beck in particular... have you seen the newest xkcd? It's there under less than positive circumstances, BUT it's a great guest spot by the Fox Trot cartoonist.

This is interesting. An Albertan (likely Edmontonian) posted, verbatim, the top comments posted in response to the Sun's article on white privilege that actually prove how much white privilege needs to be dealt with. Gotta love Alberta.

Did you see the Opt Out With a Twist article from the Atlantic? Hilarious!

There was a CBC radio show about this stuff months ago that brought on a radiology researcher who's absolutely refusing to go through the scanners, solely because of the radiation risk. I realise he's one person, but he's one person with a fair amount of experience in the realm of X-rays and radiation.

The Atlantic article was great. Thanks for posting all that info Paras. ... and have you decided to moonlight as a news reporter? ;)

oh, p.s. in a short attempt to find the CBC radio clip, I searched for "airport scanners" and got back 311 articles. Some even suggest that the scanners are religiously offensive.

I think serious thought needs to be had over all this stuff, and now's as good a time as any. I just wish there were viable options for alternatives. We've destroyed our trans-continental train system entirely.

ooo, and this is a great counterpoint, too.

*[EDIT: airline pilots are fighting back and TSA workers are creeps... "head's up, I got a cutie for you" how awful]

Backscatter x-rays are the latest annoyance from the TSA. Some people suggest letting the TSA know they have to meet the resistance, rather than being seen in the virtual nude.

Meanwhile, concerns are being raised about the radiation dose from these scanners as the full dose is being applied to the skin rather than passing through the body like conventional x-rays. Is the TSA being callous about people's health as a result of enthusiastic lobbyists.

Then again perhaps people are finally fed up with security theatre.
