Today's xkcd refers to The Rules, something I had never seen before. Then I looked it up. Wholesome.

I especially like the rules that refer to "The Rules":

  • Practice, Practice, Practice! (or, Getting Good at The Rules)
  • Even if You're Engaged or Married, You Still Need The Rules
  • Do The Rules, Even when Your Friends & Parents Think It's Nuts
  • Don't Discuss The Rules with Your Therapist.
  • Do The Rules and You’ll Live Happily Ever After!

Replace "The Rules" with "The Cult" and you really have something going there.

I agree, Albert. I think it's reprehensible that companies would do that to their employees... BUT it happens all the time, everywhere. Unfortunately. ... which is why I'm posting a comic, to lighten the mood!

Except it's too big to read in one screen on my computer. SO, if you have a similar situation yourself, I hyperlinked the thing so you can go to the website and read it there as well.

Well I can't actually believe a company would let harassment like that happen. If it was my HR department some one would definitely be fired. So sorry to your friend for having to face such a negative work environment and management with no moral back bone to act right.

I think your other friend's statement is entirely too optimistic. A little too yeah the world is great nothing is wrong. I don't know if my life is grinding down the little optimism I did have but I can tell you this, you got to work for what you got. Nothing in this world is free but if you are willing to work at it you can get anything. In other words you make your own luck and definitely don't wait for any hand outs. They don't really happen.

so.... I just saw a comment on a friend's facebook status update that's got me wondering what people REALLY think about things...

In response to the main status which was about a friend of mine walking away from a job in which she was being harassed by a coworker and the management wasn't doing anything to stop it (despite complaints), a friend of hers said a bunch of things along the lines of congratulations for escaping the bullshit and best of luck in the future and then ended with (and I'm did a ctrl-c for the text): "The UNIVERSE SHALL PROVIDE...abundance is our birthright...enjoy the new path"

I'm sorry, abundance is our birthright??? Since when did we get born into such privilege as that? ... or is it because we're North Americans that we can presume such advantages? good grief. No wonder this world is going to hell in a handbasket.

Yay Sunday evening pessimism.

That movie Marwencol reminds me of the movie "Crumb", a biography of sorts about Robert Crumb and his family.

Along the same lines as this movie, wonderful, and sad at the same time.

Whoa. That film looks amazing, Tony. I don't know that I'd allow myself to open up my vulnerabilities on a doc like that.

In more lighthearted movie news, have you guys heard of Score: A Hockey Musical. Nelly Furtado plays a superfan, Hawksley Workman plays a community rink shinny player, and Olivia Newton John is a homeschooling mom fearing her son will be corrupted by the major leagues.

Hawksley even sings a song... about hockey, with the line "so bring some double doubles and some boston cremes". Oh o-oh oh hockey, hockey. hahaha!

Strange, sad and wonderful. I think I will have to track this movie down someday.
