omg... Millarville (about an hour from my apartment, and just south of Calgary), is having a fair on the 21st of August. AND, as part of the fair, they're having a PIE EATING CONTEST! Who wants to go? :)

yes, Stephen Hawkings is one great man...

... which brings me to this:

the mouseover is even better... so just go see it on the website.

AND nothing says fun like the periodic table of swearing!

not that any of this says anything about what I think is the best invention. I still need to think about that.

I never thought we'd ever figure out the unified theory of physics, but there it is, just layed out in front of us. Thank you, Stephen Hawkings.

not the best invention is where-ever water leaked into my basement.

so far my vote is for towels, wet dry vac, Rubbermaid plastic containers and for a non wet basement fave, parmigiano reggiano

Greatest invention... Well since this is a big recurring theme in the books I read I would have to say language, more specifically the invention of recorded knowledge. Now the evils of the first world can be past on to future generation to be venerated, distorted, destroyed.

First off, Happy Birthday to all the birthday people!!

Second, you're almost there Jsese: homeopathy is like storing the energy state of a building in structure form in a bomb and using the bomb to restore the building that's now in demolished form back to structure form.

Turns out you can bomb a building back into a repaired state. Suck it, peace activists!

Third, obviously the answer to Jess's question is homeopathy (see here).

Since Albert gets to post random questions: What do you think humanity's best invention has been? ("Best" is deliberately vague.)
