Although I agree with Jess, there's still a part of me that likes certain guys on motorcycles. Most of the time, they're senseless idiots looking to up their "manliness" in the eyes of other men (no sensible girl is going to want a guy who's, um, 80% more likely to become road pizza than the average car driver... it just doesn't make sense in terms of relationship longevity).

BUT there are the odd few who carry off this sense of rugged self-reliance ('cause they don't need four walls, a/c and airbags, they're exposed to the elements while out riding, and motorcycles seem to break down more often so they need to know how to fix 'em on the fly) that somehow trumps the chauvinistic douchebag attitude most riders of crotch rockets and harleys seem to have. ... Though you're still stuck with irresponsible death-wishing guys, and men who wear too much leather. ... and the odds are you're going to find one of the way more common undesirables than any of the too-good-to-be-true "hot" ones. I would fully advocate against motorcycle riding if the idea ever came up in a relationship of mine. (or strongly advocate for writing a will and one of those hospital care directives in case of debilitating injury prior to anyone getting on to one)

Yes, I am biased. My dad has dealt with too many insurance claims where motorcyclists have died or been seriously, permanently injured. One of my favourite professors has a permanently brain-damaged and wheelchair bound son because of a motorcycle accident. I also saw that horrible fatality on the Groat bridge last summer. It is a far more calculated risk to live in a firetrap of a new house (with those godawful engineered lumber floor joists and staircases) than to ride a motorcycle.

Confident is not the same as reckless and aggressive. Actually, they are quite possibly exclusive.

But how bout the whole "I'm a badass who will stomp down on anything that will get in my way factor"?

I thought women liked confident men?

Ewww. I disagree completely. Nothing says "Don't date me; I'm reckless and think really highly of myself," more clearly than a motorcycle.

My forearms hurt from tightening bolts too much today. ugh.

In other news, this website is effing hilarious and awesome, and is starting to make me think it would be fun to attempt to recreate some childhood photos.

But maybe not the way this guy did.

The pre-pay at the pump law in BC stemmed from a pump jockey getting run-over by a gas and go offender. Over-reaction? Possibly. Will they be repealing it anytime soon? Probably not. The law has the name of the dead kid in the title, so there's too much emotional weight to go back now.
