So, I was directed to a review of Avatar by Roger Ebert, where he seemed rather impressed by the movie. Not knowing anything of the plot (or anything at all about the movie save the hype about 3-D and James Cameron's self-aggrandizing) I thought "hmm, why not watch the trailer."

And then I remembered why I hate watching trailers. You can watch for yourself if you like but be warned (as I was not) that most of the plot (save the possibility of a twist before the climax) is revealed in those three minutes of the video.

Gone from piqued curiousity to no interest at all in seeing the movie in a matter of a few minutes.

I agree, Jesse. Competition = good. Political interference in regulatory action for the sake of "increasing competition" = bad. If the ownership rules are a problem, change the ownership rules. (You have a plurality in the House. Get it done.) If the rules aren't a problem, don't interfere.

(Not that I'm terribly optimistic about the new service. Virgin was supposed to improve everything, too, but now it's just all Bell.)

Hold the phone...

Octopus snatches coconut and runs!

Specifically, Octopuses are acquiring halved coconut shells and using them for shelter. That means we need to add these to the list of animals that use tools, and will one day turn on humans. I'm fairly certain the video in the link ends with the Octopus’s unwarranted killing of the camera man.

I'm not sure how to think about the Globalive/ Wind addition to canadian telecoms. I think the big three have been taking advantage of the system for a while now and that some new competition is a good thing. Of course the big 3 are not happy about someone else undercutting them. But I think the CRTC was correct in keeping Globalive out based on them not being a Canadian company. Changing our laws based on our governments whims, basically the idea of more tax dollars from another large company got Mr. Harper all excited in his nether regions, is not the best way to run our country. So, is this a good thing? or a bad thing? I dunno, Both?

also, yay canada

"Canada fiercely opposes proposal to extend Kyoto ". We wouldn't want to stand by our word now would we. that might cost us something. Why is Mr. Harper dragging Canada's good name through the mud?

In case you've heard me rant/talk about it:

Globalive allowed to enter Canadian cellphone market

The big 3 are not happy:

"If Wind is Canadian, then so was King Tut," said Michael Hennessy, head of regulatory affairs for Telus, on his Twitter page. "When you have no effective opposition party, you can make the rules you want."

Hi everyone

Matt has finally quit Culligan after years of saying he was going to and his last day is Friday the 4th. He wants to have some people over that night to celebrate. I know it's short notice and also holiday season so we understand if you are busy. His last day was supposed to be the 11th but he finally had it and told them yesterday he was gone on Friday. I've invited most people through Facebook but I don't have everyone on there so I thought I would post on here. Just let us know if you can make it or not. No pressure.

Hope you can make it.
