This is, as they say on the internets, teh awesome: Moffat named Doctor Who supremo:
Scriptwriter Steven Moffat was today named lead writer and executive producer on hit BBC1 drama Doctor Who.
...
The appointment makes Moffat Doctor Who's showrunner - the key creative force behind the programme - on the fifth series, which will be broadcast on BBC1 in 2010.
Moffat, of course, wrote my favorite episodes from the past two seasons -- The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink -- as well as the absolutely fantastic miniseries Jekyll (which, if you haven't watched, you really need to borrow from me yesterday.) He has a two-parter coming up this season which has high expectations (which is to say, I expect much of it; I don't know if there are generally high expectations, but there ought to be...)

Does anyone know the rules for getting a telemarketer to remove your number from their list? It seems counterintuitive for them to ask me for more personal information (email address, etc.) to remove my number from the list. (Of course, it also seemed counterintuitive that he would ask me to refer friends and relatives after I had insisted to have my number removed from the list...)

And I concur, that "Hardball" clip was awesome.

That Hardball clip is one of the most enjoyable things I've seen in a long time. Three cheers for grade 11 social studies.

Since it's the long weekend and many of you haven't seen each other in a while... who wants to have a "Because we haven't seen each other in a while party"?

Scary day. I agree with Lorne Gunter. Especially this bit:
In last month's budget there was not a word or even a hint this change was coming. Instead, the budget was full of talk about working with regional health authorities, delivering service through the authorities, strengthening their "governance and leadership" and "the performance, financial management, cost control and reporting structures of health authorities."
There was nothing about a super board coming in three weeks, which leads me to believe this decision is just another in a long line of slap-dash, seat-of-the-pants, last-minute, back-of-the-envelope pronouncements made by this government.
I hope I'm wrong, but this moves looks as if it will produce no improvements in patient care and could well lead to needless duplication of expenditure between the new board and the Health and Wellness Department, as well as between the central planners and the regions.

I don't know about you, but I think this needs to happen more often:

One provincial board to govern Alberta's health system:
One provincial governance board will replace Alberta’s nine regional health authority boards, the Alberta Mental Health Board, Alberta Cancer Board and Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) to ensure the provincial health system is patient-focused and provides equitable access to all Albertans in the 21st century.
The new Alberta Health Services Board will be responsible for health services delivery for the entire province and will report directly to the Minister of Health and Wellness. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to be responsible for setting, monitoring and enforcing provincial health policy, standards and programs, as well as for managing health capital planning, procurement and outcome measures.
I'm still waiting for a real answer to "why?" on this one (and I can't help but be reminded of this.) Consolidating from 17 regions to 9 didn't save a whole lot on administration; I'm at a loss to think of why 9 to 1 will save any significant amount.
In any case, someone is going to have a hell of a time integrating all the different policies of all the different RHAs. I don't want to have that guy's job; it's going to be a mess.

Yep Tay that the way to do it. Just work your ass off and enjoy the success (sp) and learn from the failure that happen. But at this age we got the energy so we got to be hungry and driven to want more. I guess this talk as of late with age, work, reviews from third parties has got me thinking about wanting more in life. I know my dad thinks I'm too hungry for money, but it's just that I want more, you know just more of everything, no point in passivly sitting on the sidelines watching. Got to jump in the game, get hurt, score the big goals, have fun.
