This was weird: Opposition snubs Tories to pass RESP tax benefit bill:
The three federal opposition parties have united to give final approval to legislation opposed by the ruling Conservatives to offer additional tax breaks on contributions to registered education savings plans.
The legislation, which still requires Senate approval, would treat RESPs like registered retirement savings plans, meaning contributions would be deductible from income for tax purposes. Under current rules, RESP contributions are taxed, but the account is allowed to grow tax free, and the withdrawals are not taxed if they are used to finance post-secondary education. The government also pitches in 20 cents on every dollar of the contribution, up to a maximum of $7,500 a year.
Not sure how much it'll cost, but it seems like a nifty idea. Still, it's weird that there's a private member's money bill; I wonder, if the Tories were so keen to stop it, why they didn't make it a confidence motion. The strangeness continues, of course:
Ted Menzies, parliamentary secretary to the minister of finance, called the private bill "irresponsible."
"This is a flagrant abuse by the Liberals of the privilege that a private member's bill gives," Menzies said. "We'll do our everything in our power to stop it in the Senate."
Someone's a tiny bit put off.

I would assume you bring what you want to share. Bring lots, bring a little, shouldn't really matter too much, I don't think. I'm not sure if everything gets listened to anyway.

I think 2 CDs per person. I don't think we can get thru all our CDs that night. Bring whatever you want, I know I will.

Also, for Operation Bleeding Ears Fest '99 is there some sort of musical theme, or guideline? Shall I bring 100 cd's, and expect to hear them all? shall I limit myself to songs that evoke a mild sense of WTF mate? Current music? retro music like early britney spears? retro music like the mamas and the papas? Canadian music? Slovenian music? Music that made you buy a cd, then go, oh, this blows......? Won't somebody please think of the children!!!!

So Operation Bleeding Ears Fest '99 is officially a go. Here's the specs:
When: March 15, starting at around 7pm
Where: 10945 University Ave.
I've also got a Facebook event going for it, too, for those who don't frequent the Board. So get your tunes ready!
And that would be awesome if the news about a new "Serenity" movie is true. Never really got into the series, but the first movie was excellent.

Not to get anyone too excited, but I was just told that there are rumours of a new serenity movie due next year. Apparently it was on summer glau's page on imdb yesterday, but not today. what that actually means, I have no idea. but I really hope it's true! Cause she is better as a crazy chick who kicks ass, than a robot who kicks ass. amongst everything else about that show that made me sad everytime I thought about it being over.
