Also, this is the greatest Lorne Gunter opinion piece ever. Had I been home today, I may just have written a letter to the Journal about this opus, but I'll have to settle for just making fun of him here, for now. His reasons why the Republican candidates for President are uninspiring:
Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican front-runner (until Iowa) is as oily as Obama is watery. He never seems sincere.Looking for quality, in-depth and well-reasoned op-eds with thoughtful arguments? Lorne Gunter is your man. "A little too cornball" -- how much more insight do you need?
Rudy Giuliani, the famous former New York mayor, failed to connect with any voters.
Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who won his party's Iowa vote, is a little too cornball.
And Arizona Senator John McCain is a political weather vane, twisted this way and that by the popular winds.
I like Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican congressman, but he has no hope of winning.
And Ron Paul is uninspiring not because of his lack of uninspiring ideas, but rather because he can't win.
Seriously, how hard is it to get a regular Journal opinion column?

To anyone I bitched to about not getting called in when I was "on-call" on weekends: I take it all back. I miss sleep. And the lack of that ever-present "we're going to call you at some ungodly hour this morning" threat, which ends up costing me, well, sleep.

Our overseas studio has already sent back three episodes, and here are some randomly-selected, out-of-context screengrabs from those self-same episodes, just to prove to you we're actually making a show in between all the heavy drinking and chili cooking, and that it actually looks pretty good:

So, the Oilers Board of Directors recommends rejecting Daryl Katz's offer. Apparently, because they have questions:
Bill Butler, Chairman of the Edmonton Investors Group, made this statement: “Our Board has full respect for the offer made by Rexall Sports. We feel it is essential that the process, in responding to this offer, be one which is transparent to every shareholder.
“Most important, we should never lose sight of what our group has accomplished since 1998. Whatever decisions we make should honour the spirit and commitment to Edmonton which first brought us together as shareholders.â€
Daryl Katz has questions for the EIG. Questions that can be summed up as "if you had questions, why didn't you just ask me?":
"The Board's conduct in recent days is confusing and I fail to see how it serves the best interests of EIG shareholders," said Mr. Katz. "I have offered repeatedly to meet with the EIG Board of Directors, EIG shareholders - either individually or as a group - and with the professional advisors to any of the above to discuss my interest in acquiring the team and answer their questions. Neither the Board nor its advisors have accepted my offers to meet. Indeed the first communication we have received from the Board came in the letter sent by their lawyer on New Year's Eve. That letter was followed by today's press conference in which Mr. Butler, without having the benefit of my response, is reported to have said the Board is recommending shareholders vote against my offer."
Why has everything in the last 18 months with this team been a soap opera?
