I got appointed to the Renewable Resources grad student social club... um, sweet (?) I'd like to know what they were thinking... I hardly ever went to the events, AND I'm supposed to be defending in April... that's not exactly the fulfillment of a 1 year term.
okay, granted, I'm not actually complaining, I just think it's odd. I really like most of the people in our department, so it's not like I'm going through some arcane form of torture, and it'll be good to socialise with a wider circle of them (instead of the cliquey knitters' group), but still, that gives me 6 months of involvement. They would've benefited more by appointing someone else.

This does not bode well: Musharraf imposes emergency rule.
Ostensibly, it's about the "extremists [that] are roaming around freely in the country", but critics argue it's more about the judiciary that Musharraf has been battling with all year, and their impending ruling on the legality of his election.
In any event, it's not good news that the General of Pakistan's army is now, essentially, the autocratic ruler of a nation whose fortunes are closely tied with our own, given our interests in Afghanistan. And that's not even mentioning the nuclear weapons issue.
Not that he's been a poor neighbour to nuclear India (they've actually come a long way in reconciling), nor that he's been a poor ally for the west (he's given up a lot, especially politically, to fight in the GWOT), but this is not a sustainable situation. And we're now in the position of deciding whether to support him and his anti-democratic actions because he's an ally in our conceptual struggle to bring democratic ideals in the region.

Animator vs. Animation. Reminiscent of that classic Bugs Bunny vs. The Brush cartoon.

hey mary, I'd be interested in getting into something like that. What's the minimum investment allowed? I don't have a lot of money, but I could really use getting into some decent investments. Which bank are you with?

Ok, not sure if anyone is interested, but if you're thinking of investing in some Canada Savings Bonds, my bank has a 1 year and 3 year GIC that totally kicks Canada Savings Bonds butt. Its 1 year at 4.5% interest and 3 years (well, 36 months, but it's the same thing) at 5%. Sorry for the shameless promotion of my workplace's products, but it's such a good deal and if you're thinking about investing in something w/guaranteed interest you should know about it.
If you ARE interested, send me an e-mail and I can book you an appointment.
