Whoah - but does it come in blue?

Those glowing figure eights in the blast stream are called Mach disks, after the guy who lent his name to the speed of sound. They're shock waves, created as the expanding fuel hits the higher atmospheric pressure outside the nozzle. If part of this blast weren't obscured, you could take the number of Mach disks (we count seven) and multiply by the speed of sound — about 758 mph at the 1,300-foot altitude of this test — to estimate the speed of fuel exiting the engine. Just don't get too close.

Kind of reminds me of telling people how to properly set casing. You can set it wrong and the casing will sink into the ground therefore collapsing your drilling hole. Our advice... setcasing properly.

I also just thought of an excellent policy for sugeons:

"measure twice, cut once".

Shit, I should do conferences.

Paras, whatever you do MAKE SURE YOU CHECK FOR ASPIRATION CAUSED BY THE FEED TUBE.

I think a good policy for any physician to go by is "BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY".

I can never find my way in the old Arts Building... for some reason, its logic doesn't resonate with me. I even had a language lab there, and I couldn't do it... always got lost. though I might try again for you, Mary!

Being home a day early rocks!

oh, and all you human body people... what does one do when one over-stresses a hip flexor? ... other than walk all gimp-like?

Hey all - I'm not sure if anyone is interested, actually I'm pretty sure that you're not, but, tomorrow I'm presenting at a conference at the U of A. If anyone wants to stop by, and hear about my thesis topic, we'll be in room 141 of the Arts Building, and I talk at 11:50.

Goddamn, I love this "Initiation of Intravenous Therapy" book. One of the possible complications of IV therapy is phlebitis (inflammation of the wall of the vein). The book has a table of causes of mechanical phlebitis (ie. phlebitis caused by direct injury to the wall of the vein.) Cause number one: "Traumatic or unskilled insertion."

Prevention of mechanical phlebitis arising from said cause: "Use skilled insertion technique."

Fucking brilliant.

I personally couldn't tell the difference with the Senator's logo. They said they made the guy look meaner, but after looking at the old and the new logo, is couldn't see it. It was the big news last week in the Metro.
