Albert and I are going to a party at the airport tonight. But I doubt there will be drinks. Or music. Or awake people.

Novak'd:

"Republicans are very pessimistic about 2008. When you talk to them off the record, they don't see how they can win this thing. And then they think for a minute, and only the Democratic Party, with everything in their favor, would say that, "OK, this is the year either to have a woman or an African-American to break precedent, to do things the country has never done before." And it gives the Republicans hope."

So:
  1. Running a woman or a black man for President is an instant handicap for the Democrats

  2. Republicans can't see how they can win the 2008 election
But, it's foolish for the Democrats to use a time of perceived electoral advantage to set a precedent that would otherwise be difficult.

Let's just skip by that he is allowed to, unquestioned, sow the seed that attempting to get not a white male into the Oval Office is a position of disadvantage; that he would do so is not a surprise.

But is he really suggesting that they should only try to set precedents that might otherwise be difficult when the election isn't stacked in their favour?

That's some spectacular logic.
