I'd also like to comment on the timing of said announcement, no less than 1 1/2 hours prior to showing. I may pop by, if I don't still overpoweringly smell like deet, but don't count on it.

In other news, our neighbors live in a TARDIS. They must. The conjoining wall has, logically, a finite amount of space. They have an infinite amount of nails to hammer into it, and are somehow finding room, as they are into their second consecutive week with no end in sight. I have 2 dogs & I was buying a large bag of Pal at Big W and standing inline at the check out.

A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Pal Diet again although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IV's in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Pal nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a guy who was behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I'd ended up in the hospital in that condition because I had been poisoned. I told her no; it was because I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.

I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard as he staggered out the door.

Stupid b*tch...why else would I buy dog food??

I figure, since the Edmonton Rowing Club requires their members to get one every year, and none of them have died from it, our ten-year booster should be a-okay.

Specifically, the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis booster is among the safest of immunizations. The manufacturers warn that increased frequency of boosters "may" increase frequency of adverse effects, but there doesn't seem to be anything more concrete than speculation and caution on that part.

There are risks for significant adverse reactions (systemic anaphylactic reactions and Guillain-Barré Syndrome), but they're extremely rare (and ever rarer if you had no problem with previous shots.) There are also higher risks for more local and temporary effects (swelling/redness at the injection site, slight fever), but they're nowhere near as serious.

Thanks for the reminder, though, Al. I think most of us are at that 10-year point where we need a booster for this. Alberta Health & Wellness is kind enough to provide a page with information about the shot, and Capital Health lets you know where you can get yours (for free!)
