Afraid of cancer? Giving up hope makes it worse:

Niederdeppe and colleagues analyzed a National Cancer Institute survey that asked people whether they agreed with three statements about cancer. About 47 percent of those surveyed agreed that "it seems like almost everything causes cancer," while 27 percent agreed that "there's not much people can do to lower their chances of getting cancer."

Most of all, Americans are confused, with 71.5 percent agreeing that "there are so many recommendations about preventing cancer, it's hard to know which ones to follow," researchers wrote in their report, published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

People who agreed with at least one of the three statements were less likely than others to exercise weekly and eat five daily servings of fruits and vegetables, said Niederdeppe and colleagues.
What's that you say? All the stories trumpeted in the media about how wine/beer/asparagus/jumping-jacks/pirouettes/etc. simultaneously prevent and cause cancer aren't helpful? They actually confuse people? And confused people ignore sound advice on avoiding demonstrable risk factors?

Astonishing.

"The league should make its own calls, not be pressured into anything by the media, and more to the point, the Canadian media."

-- Chris Pronger, on his suspension

Wow. How is it that once I've whittled down my resentment for him to just that he deserves for leaking his trade demand and then fucking off to Mexico, Pronger manages to make an ass of himself again. No doubt the Canadian media hates him because... they love Edmonton so much? They dislike gap-teeth? They think his chinstrap is perilously loose?

Later in the same scrum:
"Of course I'm going to hit him in the head," Pronger explained. "He's quite a bit shorter than me. It's just law of physics."

Which explains why every time he hits a guy, the guy's head gets plastered into the boards. Right? Right?? No doubt he's never had a chance to adjust his hitting style to, say, accommodate his height difference.

Alright since it is a long weekend and I haven't seen some of you in a month or so...:

What: The forget you life regret and see people you haven't seen in a while gathering!

So the theme for tonight is to bring along some life regret you have and hopefully at the end of the nigh when you are all sloshed you will be over it. You don't need to tell anyone what your regret is if you don't want to but cathartic experiances must be had! Oh and see people like me who you haven't seen in months.

When:Tonight at 8:30 PM

Where:Brewsters

Why:See above

Who:Hopefully you me and everyione else.

nice use of the Dutch Navy Hammer there Beck, I think, on technique alone (for the sake of ingenuity), you should've won!

and Adrian, I really hope they paid you for all your eating... that stuff looked rather horrendous.
