mp3 blog of the past week: molars is hosting some great stuff, such as Animal Collective covers of Nirvana songs, and Blood Brothers outtakes from Crimes. that's pretty sweet.

Wanna go to space?

Book your ticket onboard the VSS ENTERPRISE, launching 2008.

I'm totally gonna walk on the moon before I die. I so called it.

Now if only NASA would step up and start recruiting explorers, pioneers and settlers for lunar and martian colonies. I'd drop everything I'm doing right now to volunteer. Even if I didn't get paid, and it was basically torture for the rest of my life with no chance for returning to Earth, I would still be so happy to do it I would cry.

My insatiable wanderlust has nothing to do with earthly travel. Doesn't anyone else realize mankind was destined for life beyond our planet? I strongly believe that our sole purpose for existence is to explore the wonders of the universe. Should we fail to achieve this purpose, we will die. I can't say it any more succinctly. There's nothing romantic about it. If we don't develop the capacity for sustainable extra-terrestrial colonies, WE WILL ALL DIE.

As the adage goes, "don't keep all your eggs in one basket".

I would gladly sacrifice my life to extend our reach beyond the mother planet. I wish someone would give me the opportunity.

Unfortunately, I think I was born 150 years too early.

Beck, your pondering of Edmonton radio stations' changing formats (combined with my boredom) got me to looking at Edmonton's radio ratings. Not only was I able to add "Edmonton radio listening habits" to my (long) list of things I know nothing about, but the explanation of the 96X-to-"Big Earl" transition was made clear.

The top three radio stations in this city are 630CHED, CISN country, and CFCW country. Country appears to be, as the kids say, where "it" is at. (Although, whether it's the kids saying that country is where it's at isn't necessarily the case.)

Also of mild interest, 630CHED's getting a traffic chopper, which led to this quirky fact:

Edmonton last had air traffic reports in the early 1990s when CHQT newsman Murray Blakely flew his own plane above the city. Blakely had earlier flown while at CJCA when the craft was known as "The Flying Tiger."

Anyone with a better memory than mine care to shed light on this one?
