For all of you who showed interest in the new EB Games store opening in southgate, I was by the downtown location today and enquired about it. They do not yet know when the new location will be opening, however they are looking for people to staff it. If you are interested, you should be popping by one of the already existing locations with your resume in tow and tell them to add it to their southgate pile. I use the term pile appropriately as apparently there is quite a lot of interest. Retail experience will take you a long way in their eyes too I'm told. I hope that helps some of you out a little.
Also, for you geekfesters, while I was there I looked at the new 4 game and it's only two players. Strangely enough it's not 1 or two players, just 2 players... So, another potential 4 player game has been massacred because they were to lazy to add the ability to have four players. Who knows, maybe they spent that time debugging it...

Since when are ten-year-olds so intimidating? I mean, I can stomach the fact that my bones are too brittle to ride a skateboard anymore, but throw a three-piece suit and some wingtips into the mix and this little shitstain makes me feel like Barbara Bush.

Ok, I don't really want to belabour the point, but I feel the need to clarify, having some experience here, and I just bought an hour of internet to kill time before the train, so:
- Tay, you are correct, calling a dual-core 3 gig processor a 6-gig is misleading (it's exceptionally false advertising)
- That said, depending on how independent two tasks are, you can potentially get a dual-core to run twice as fast as a single processor. In fact, because of cache effects, you can potentially get a dual-core to run more than twice as fast as a single 3 gig processor (ie. faster than a 6 gig processor).
- Also, you can just keep adding processors. There are different effects you have to consider at the less-than-20-processor level than you do at the 100s-to-1000s of processor level, but it's not impossible. Supercomputers (with 100s to 1000s of processors) are indeed room-sized. But dual-core means two processors on one chip, meaning it's not unreasonable to put 4 or more processors in a desktop. (The specs for the next-gen consoles claim up to 7 semantic processors, and you've seen how big those are.)
- You are right, single-processor development will continue. But what you have to understand is that getting two processors to run 1.5 times faster than a single is much cheaper than increasing the speed of a single processor 1.5 times. It doesn't mean faster processors won't be developed, it just means that they will be designed to work in tandem with others to get greater speed benefits.
All right, I'm done.

hmm... I checked mint records to see if neko case was touring these days, but alas she is not (but I didn't think so considering that she's busy working on her new album).
HOWEVER, Carolyn Mark will be here on the 30th at the Sidetrack!!!
She'll be here for a whole week after that at Folk Fest too.
But it's still not neko... ;(
