- okay... here's an idea:
why don't we kidnap all the world leaders, industry executives, etc. who've got us into this mess, whether pollution, destruction, war, terrorism, poverty, or any other "social ill" that's slowly destroying us, and teach them a lesson. Or maybe just replace them, and forever keep them hostage until things return to more acceptable status. Sure, war cannot be entirely removed, nor tolerance entirely enstated, but we could find some happy medium, some means of appeasement or compromise. And sure, we may not be able to remove our dependence on oil immediately, but at least we could make small steps towards that change, anything would be better than this shit we're in now.
oh, and a quick fact from the article I posted:
Canada uses more energy than the entire continent of Africa every day.
sure you can argue, we're colder, we make more money... but all of Africa? there are millions upon millions of people there, where do we get off thinking we can do this and get away with it?

- arghh!
so, anyone else here ever have a day where all they want to do is scream?
yup? thought so.
not that I'm going to get into the gory details of everything,
but it really seems to me that when it rains, it pours
So, i have two more exams... nothing to get upset about, I know
but I also have to finish changing over the exec
the club may not have the money it needs in the bank to pay the bills
someone (me) has to talk to the banquet hall owner who stiffed us on grad
and my new job starts when?
I'm not ready for this. I don't have the first clue what I have to do
nor how to do it. Why did they hire me?
plus there are all these other pressures on me right now
I feel like bursting.
and to top it off, I went to the book sale yesterday. good deals. I bought probably 20 items for $8 and I carried them around in a box thru the sale and on the way home, for probably a total of 2 hours. Hence, my arms hurt, and my dad started to go on this tirade about me needing exercise. two hours. I'll bet his arms would hurt if he held a box full of books for 2 hours. Yes, I need exercise, but so what? I don't have time right now, I didn't during school either, and i do walk a fair distance anyway. Just because he started going to the gym... at least I don't secretly smoke.
fuck. apparently I can't do anything right. I skipped out (with parental permission) on the anniversary dinner and I studied, and slept (which apparently I really needed). What's more important? a party at which mostly adults and little kids with no babysitters go, or the end of my BSc?
so yeah, enough about me...
then there's all the other shit going on in the world...
i love how this board bounces from the inane to the highly politicized to everything in between.
There are some scary stories out there right now... actually, all the time. It goes from scary hostage situations... hooray on Fadi Fadel's release... to letters in the paper to show how little people actually value children (huh? what about the future? - not so much scary as disturbing). And this one especially should interest us as Canadians: Does the Great White North deserve its green reputation? which literally shows what a shitty job Canada is doing. Again, what about the future? or do people even care? fuck!
and now back to studying

Like it or not, Hamas is the only hope now for Palestine. Anyone who thinks a Kerry victory over Bush (highly unlikely if recent polls are any indication) is going to change anything, they're dead wrong. One thing Bush has going for him is honesty. The fucking Democrats have long been fierce supporters of Israel (although they won't tell you this). Any way you look at it, the Palestinians are fucked. And the murder of Zionist pricks, however tragic, at least evens the score, which is the best that can possibly be hoped for, at least as long as the United States is a superpower.

- Not really. They've hit their two targets, sure. But today, they killed two of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi's bodyguards. Their previous (obviously failed) attempt killed two bystanders. They took two attacks before they killed the spiritual leader of Hamas, Sheik Ahmed Yassin. The time they succeeded, they killed 8 other people. The previous attempt, a dropping of a 1/4 tonne bomb, failed to kill him, or any of the other high ranking Hamas leaders in the vicinity. The Israelis definitely aren't very skilled at this (I'm somehow hoping they don't get more practice, though.) Not that I'm a fan of Hamas, but I definitely know that missile launches from Apache helicopters are not the principled response to young men and women blowing themselves up (some might call firing missiles into civilian centres to combat terrorism hypocrisy, but I choose not to bring that up.)
On another note, has anyone tried to use EdmontonJournal.com? If you want to attract people to your news site, maybe you should make it load in a reasonable amount of time. But no, we can afford to make it slow. Is it the beautifully detailed pictures that's slowing me down? Nope, not many of those. Maybe it's the multimedia. Nope, virtually none. How about the handy flash menubar? Nope, just text. No, the reason it's slow is the fucking advertisements. They can't get a decent server to load the bullshit that no one reads anyway. It is literally faster to load the "E-edition" (where they basically scan the paper and put it online) than it is to load the text file version. Why would I want to use this source? Who are the geniuses running the online part of the Edmonton Journal and, by extension Canada.com (who gave them that domain, anyway?)
Finally, for some great "unbiased" online resources, there's 1ClickLobbyist.ca, which apparently only lobbies for you if you are on the right of the spectrum, and FreeDominion.ca. The latter taught me that today was National Liberty Day. Both are great sources of information... if you think that Lorne Gunter is a level-headed advocate for a fair and balanced view of the world.
