TO: Doug Feith
FROM: Donald Rumsfeld

SUBJECT: Issues w/Various Countries
We need more coercive diplomacy with respect to Syria and Libya, and we need it
fast. If they mess up Iraq, it will delay bringing our troops home.

We also need to solve the Pakistan problem.

And Korea doesn’t seem to be going well.

Are you coming up with proposals for me to send around?
Thanks.

Is there a more tragically ironic subject line than "Issues w/Various Countries"? (Well, maybe this one, but still.)

Wow, Christchurch New Zealand got hit with another earthquake. This time the damage was severe. The spire on the cathedral even came tumbling down. I've just spent the last half hour looking at pictures of the city I took about a month before the first earthquake hit. It's kind of surreal to see the devastation like that. I've e-mailed my family in NZ but as it's 5am there I don't expect a reply for a while. Also, they're all on the north island so I'm sure they're just fine. Still, kind of strange to see a beautiful Gothic city in ruins like that.

The Cathedral at Cathedral Square around which the city is built. That used to be the spire.
