Sadly, non-leather shoes that I can still wear to work are a luxury I am not quite able to afford. Also, I don't think I could pull them off.
Sad news for those who want to know how long the coast of Britain is. Benoît Mandelbrot passed away Thursday.

All of these are really cool, but it's the first one that's truly amazing!

So... In relation to that last post, apparently 52% of the world's leather production is for shoes. SHOES!
... which leads me to the following.
Paras, if you are still looking, even just casually, for vegan footwear, you might be able to find something made by John Fluevog. Canadian-made and designed, these shoes come with a small-producer ethos, that sometimes extends to vegan and eco-friendly production. ... and they may go up to your size, I don't know. ... but it might be worth checking out their Vancouver stores and asking. They may do special orders, too, plus it's nice to wander around Gastown. (though you might end up with plaid dress shoes instead of plain 'leather'). Anyway, I thought it was worth a head's up.

um... so, according to this horribly long, but really cool pdf, India has a beef-exporting industry. ... They export a larger percentage of their beef production than Canada. ... Canada's at 19% exportation, India exports 26%. Australia exports 67% holy shit!
For those of you not interested in a 64 page pdf on forests (the beef cattle production map is on pg 35), I got it from here: The Forest Footprint Disclosure Project.

Probably the same people that today buy copious amounts of homeopathic "remedies", or ionizers, or alkalinity raisers, or acai/goji/pomegranate juice/pills/pastes/shots/whatever.
Basically some smart assholes can market shit using science-y sounding descriptions, and idiots will pay for it. Eventually the assholes will be sued for deceptive marketing or something and slapped with a fine totalling about 3% of what they've already made off the scam. Once they're shut down they find a new thing to market.
